MEET PETE the PEEKAPOM
North New Jersey
This adorable little boy with the cutest little toopheses you've ever seen is a black with white mask and toes, male Pekingese – Pomeranian mix (PeekaPom), 13 lbs., and around 6-7 years old. He is a FUN and FUNNY little guy. He LOVES to play with toys, dogs, you, whatever, he's not fussy. He tosses his toy around in the air and then jumps to catch it himself! He will chase a tossed ball for as long as you'll throw it. And he will entertain himself in general sniffing around, chewing on a nylabone, or taking naps in the sun.
He is a VERY affectionate little guy and has done well learning boundaries while here. He is now quite independent and has learned the routine. In fact, sometimes his foster mom has to drag him out of the bedroom to come outside with the others! He sleeps on a doggie bed next to his foster mom’s bed at night but would definitely LOVE to sleep in bed with his person. He snuggles on the couch while watching tv, etc.
He has a blast playing with the other pups in his foster home so would be nice for him to have another fur friend to play with but it is not necessary as long as he has a human around for most of the day. He is more of the submissive type and is afraid of alpha bullies. So no mean doggies in his new home! He is also afraid of small children so tweenagers and up please.
His xrays were normal, blood work was good, and physical exam perfect! Thus, he made his way into surgery for a dental and to get his cherry eye removed. He was extremely well behaved at the vet and groomer.
He will need eye drops for dry eye and eye pressure for life. He is UTD, HW negative, neutered, dewormed, dental, housebroken, and full of love.
Adoption donation is $450.

ABOUT OUR PROCESS:
WE ONLY CONTACT APPLICANTS WITH WHOM WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD.
We typically get in touch within 24-48 hours, but it may take up to 10 days. Please watch your email and answer your phone (from 201 area code) after you submit an application. Unfortunately, we do not have the manpower to reply to all applicants.
We also do not have the manpower to accept phone calls. Everything we know about the dog is posted above. Our adoption process is on our website. You can see more about our daily operations on our Facebook page.
PLEASE give your vet office permission to speak with rescues if you are applying to adopt from any rescue. Ask them to mark your file. If they will not speak with us, we will move on to the next application and you will not be considered.
We consider out-of-area adoptions on a case-by-case basis. All meet & greets and adoptions are held in north New Jersey, and we do not transport our pups. You must come to NJ. We also do not “hold” dogs. It is “first qualified, first come” and our expectation is you will move quickly to conduct the meet & greet if you are approved. An approved application does not guarantee adoption of any dog from our rescue, and we reserve the right to deny adoption at any point during the process.

More about this rescue
The Gingerbread House is a sanctuary and rescue for Pekingese and similar small-breed dogs. We focus on senior and hospice pups that require experienced fosters and adopters, or that are not adoptable due to their age, health, or special needs. Many of these dogs have been neglected physically, medically, and emotionally. Some have been surrendered due to their age or medical needs, others come from severe neglect-hoarding situations, and others from backyard breeders and puppy mills.
We assist owners who need to surrender their special pups and we work to ensure a positive experience during this emotional time. It is never an easy decision to part with a furry loved one and we understand that sometimes it is in the pup’s best interest.
We also partner with local shelters and rescues to take in these precious souls so they are not euthanized. After all these little ones have been through, they deserve a chance to live their remaining days knowing love and care, a soft clean bed, quality food, and a life without pain, filth, and starvation.
Adoptable dogs remain in our loving foster homes during rehabilitation and vetting, while we work to find their new furever families. Unadoptable pups remain in our sanctuary where they spend their remaining days being cared for and loved. We will never give up on them and will work to give them the best life possible. While in our care we provide for their needs including ongoing veterinary care, medication, supplements, food, continence care, and grooming.
The Gingerbread House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in north New Jersey. We are run by volunteers and fosters and rely solely on donations to provide for these sweet dogs in their golden years. As a public charity, all donations are 100% tax deductible and 100% of donations go to the dogs.
Please reach out if you are interested in fostering or volunteering. It will help save a life!
