Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Buffy is what you see when you look up “Beagle” in the dictionary. She is a richly tri-colored, physically fit, good-natured (but at the same time stubborn and mischievous) girl. And if you REALLY want a beagle…that’s what you’re looking for.
Buffy has a wonderfully athletic build, which she uses on occasion to scale chain link fences! There is no keeping her in a run, but she does not mind a tie out. If she has a four-legged sibling to romp with and is monitored, she is quite happy to play and sniff around in a fenced in yard and shows no pre-occupation with getting out. The same applies in the house, with a companion keeping her busy there is a lot less “no Buffy!”
Buffy sez: Well, hey! I get bored in runs or outside by myself. Wouldn’t you?? I believe you’ve all heard the expression “I was climbing the walls”…well; I can’t climb walls, but chain link of any height…not a problem. But when I am with my beagle buddy, we chase each other or sometimes just sniff around while mom watches. That I like. I would LOVE for someone to take me to field training class so that my athletic talents could shine! I think I could win competitions! All moms’ friends actually LIKE to see me climb out of the dog run because they can’t believe how easy it is for me.
Buffy recently appears to be housebroken, but at some point in her life was paper trained and will probably at first need to have a “pee pad” down for the occasional lapse until she gets comfortable in her new environment. Buffy can keep her crate clean all night and during the day, again, with a very occasional accident when crated for long periods.
Buffy sez: But I NEVER poopy in the house or in my crate. I think that is important and should be said.
Buffy is reasonably curious, but does not bother covered garbage nor try to climb countertops unless of course there are irresistible goodies like fried chicken bones or some bacon smells coming from the container. Then, that beagle nose just flips the top and goes for it. That’s why beagle people know that beagles are not always good to leave unattended!
Buffy sez: Tee hee, she’s obviously not going to tell you about the time I got to the table in record time and ate a nice big chunk of an unbaked pie crust. Well, let me tell you that (repaired) pie went on to win first place in a local pie contest (she’d die if this got out). Coincidence? I think not. Beagle spit ROCKS!
Buffy is a healthy, joyful dog for sure, but needs a home environment where one eye and ear (at least one) is always aware of what she’s up to. We do the same for children right? And everyone knows that beagles are just two year olds with paws.
