My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Isn't Rupert gorgeous? He is with a foster family, so please let us know ahead of time if you would like to meet him. Here is what they say about this 5 year old gentle giant:

Rupert is a mixed breed dog. You would think he has Catahoula in him b/c of his coloring but that is not the case. A DNA test revealed: He is 29% Doberman, 24% Great Pyrenees, 21% Maremma Sheepdog, and gets his color from the 4% Miniature (LOL) American Shepherd. He showed up at our home in late March and weighed 60lbs. He is now a healthy 100lbs. I see the Doberman in him come out when he is being protective of me and loving with our family. He loves to nuzzle his head in between your arm and body then wrap his leg around your leg. He is the only dog I have ever had that gives hugs. He is a trash hound so if there is a trash can around, he is going to get into it. I think that comes from the 4+ months he was on his own. He is a strong and powerful dog. But he learns quickly. When we first got him, he would constantly jump on us. He no longer does that and has learned to stay down or just jump away from us. He knows how to sit, shake, and sit pretty...the sit pretty is funny b/c he is so gangly he has to hang on to your arm when he does it. He loves running and playing with our 15yo daughter. He is good around our female dogs, but I do keep them separated for his protection b/c our one dog is not nice all the time. When our cat was alive, we brought him out to see how Rupert would do with Cheeto and Rupert did not go after him. He is a good, fun loving, happy, digging pup...

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please stop by to visit or go to www.thhs.org and fill out an application

The fee for adopting a dog is $125*.
This includes their spay/neuter, first vaccinations (not including rabies), worming, microchip, ears cleaned, nails trimmed, first office visit at participating Veterinary Offices

*Some select animals may have special adoption fees.

The fee for adopting a cat or kitten is $85.00.
This includes their spay/neuter, first vaccination (not including rabies), worming, microchip, ears cleaned, nails trimmed, first office visit at participating Veterinary Offices, one year's membership in the THHS, use of our Dog Park (if you should have a dog).

With an adoption you have the option of having your other pets microchipped for $25. Microchipping is also available to the public for $35 per animal. Micro chipping improves the odds of your lost pet being returned to you! Many homeless animals lose their tags, and since they do not have a pocket for a wallet, they have no way to identify themselves!
