My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's MAYBELLINE!

Meet May or "May Mayyyy" as we like to call her, our 4 year old lowrider mix (DNA test pending!). She is known for her little legs and big heart, and she is sure to make you fall for her with all the love she gives! She also LOVES nothing more than to cuddle and ask for rubs... all day, everyday!

Maybelline is currently living with another dog and has done great with him, given a slow integration period. She loves to follow her foster brother Cooper around and seems to really enjoy his company. Previous to being rescued, she was living outdoors with other dogs, and the shelter repeated that she tested well with other dogs. Since arriving to her foster home, she has shown some leash reactivity/excitability when seeing other dogs that results in her getting hyped up and not having well-mannered interactions while on leash. She gets overly excited, so unfortunately we may not be able to have her participate in a dog-to-dog meet prior to adoption in a safe way. If her future home has another pet, we would suggest doing a very slow separation/integration in order to introduce and integrate her into the home with other dogs. She would also do just fine as an only pet!

She is working hard with her foster mom with her leash skills, because she does get quite excited when seeing other dogs on walks. Due to her heartworm treatment, she isn't able to exercise or work on training because it is dangerous for her heart rate to rise at this time, so her future home will benefit from working on leash manners, relationship building and basic obedience skills with her once she has recovered from her treatment.

We think May May would thrive in a home that is lowkey and with a family that would be willing to be patient with her as she can be timid when in new environments or meeting new people. Don't worry she warms up quick!! She just didn't have the most loving life before coming into foster care but she's learning quickly that people treat her with kindness. She's a pretty quiet girl with great manners, and is looking to explore/learn a whole new world of love and adventure with her new family!

May May is part of our "foster-to-adopt" program because she is currently beginning the process of undergoing heartworm treatment. Don't worry, heartworms are completely treatable, she will just have to limit her walks/exercise for a few months while she recovers. Our rescue completely covers the cost of all medical procedures, so should she find her forever home prior to this being completed, her new family will "foster" her and then complete adoption officially once treatments are complete!

Additional adoption info

Please visit www.hopeanimals.org/adopt to learn more about our adoption process and to complete an adoption application.

Adoption Fee includes spay/neuter*, microchipping, up-to-date vaccinations, and current heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

*If pet is not old enough to be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, a $50.00 credit will be paid to your vet at the time of surgery.

We require a veterinary reference for current pet owners, and pets must be up to date on vaccines and heartworm preventative. We meet potential adopters in their homes and introduce the pets to the family's current pets to see if it is a good match. A copy of our adoption contract can be requested via email.
