My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We love Petal and we know you will too!

Petal is a 4-month-old lovebug who is excited to be your newest best friend. She loves cuddles and will never turn down some playtime with her favorite people. She is a confident girl who knows no strangers.   Petal currently weighs around 30lbs and likely will be at least 60-70lbs when fully grown.

Petal was born in foster care with her 8 sisters after her mom, Daffodil, was found as a pregnant stray. An owner never came forward, so the puppies were born in foster care and separated into foster homes as pairs when weaned. Petal has been fostered with her sister, Magnolia, but they are looking for individual adoptive homes. Petal 's mom appears to be a rottweiler/ labrador mix. We don't know who the dad is, but based on the puppies' looks, our best guess is he is a long-haired German Shepherd mix.

Petal is a smart girl who is eager to learn, especially if treats are involved. She is looking for an active family who can provide her with lots of daily exercise and mental enrichment. She still needs to learn all of her basic manners, so her new family will need to be dedicated to continuing her training and socialization.  Due to her size, Petal would do best with a family that has large dog experience.

Petal currently lives in a foster home with other dogs and she would love another playful medium/large dog in her new home. Petal hasn't   been around cats before, but she could do well living with dog-savvy cats in her new home with a slow introduction and proper supervision.  Petal   could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older.

Petal has been doing well with her housetraining, but she is still learning and her new family will need to be consistent about her house training. She has done well being crated overnight and in a pen with her sister when home alone. She hasn't spent too much time by herself, so she would need a family who can slowly get her acclimated to being home alone.

Petal is a charming girl who can't wait to start her life with her forever family. If you think that might just be you, submit an adoption application today!

Petal 's adoption fee is $400.

The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes.

Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption.
