HENRY! Loved by all and truly a shelter favorite. This huge gentle giant is the heart of Milo. He has so many supporters that his adoption fee has been sponsored - shout out Thomas and Mila. This big baby was left abandoned in Willits when his homeless human was taken to jail.... he was found hungry and bottoming out, left alone without his loyal companion. Thankfully, a good Samaritan picked him up and brought him to us to be part of the Milo family. Henry has been the star resident of Milo since May of 2024. He was just a baby when he came to us; 10 months old. The one true person he trusted and loved was taken from him and he had to learn how to trust a number of caretakers. But that was easy for him. Giving love is where Henry thrives. Receiving the love back is where he truly struggles. He once was fortunate enough to experience the love that he truly deserves when he was fostered for almost a whole month. Other than that, Henry has only experienced the intermittent love by staff during the day before he is left to sleep alone on a cold, hard kennel floor. Despite almost a year of enduring the loneliness, Henry continues to remain positive - keeping a smile on his face and spreading joy to all those around him; whether that is people or other dogs.
Henry is an active, athletic, and playful pup who loves outdoor adventures like hiking and fetch. He loves to play. Not only with people, but his dog buddies as well. After he burns off his energy and excitement, though it is never completely burned entirely, he is ready to cuddle up and receive loving pets while kissing the giver in gratitude. Eager to please and food motivated, Henry is quick to learn and thrives on affection, He enjoys learning new things and is always up for a training session. He picks up on things quickly and works through the cognitive challenges presented to him. When he gets frustrated and doesn't understand what is being asked of him, he will bark to let you know. His connection and communication with a human handler is impressive and makes training him a fun and rewarding experience. Being in the environment he has been for over a year, he respects any new handler that wants to work with him and does his best to please.
Not only does Henry enjoy spending time with literally ANY human companion, he is well liked amongst other dogs and has quite a variety of friends. Though he often underestimates his size and can get caught up in the excitement of play, he has never shown aggression or intended to hurt one of his friends. His one flaw is that he can so into the play that he may hump the other dog. Many dogs will correct him for his inappropriate behavior and he quickly accepts the correction and fixes his error. Henry has an endless array of friends; big, small, boys, girls, humans, dogs. Just maybe not cats.
Henry is the perfect companion for anyone looking for a fun, loving, and energetic addition to their home. He will need training to help refine his manners, but with his eagerness to please, he's sure to catch on quickly. If you're ready for a silly, affectionate dog who will keep you on your toes and shower you with love, Henry is waiting for you!

More about this rescue
The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.
Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.
The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
