Here's what the humans have to say about me:
How awesome would it be to come home to the happiest dog waiting at the door for you with his cutest dog smile?! Wheezy Bear has shown great improvement in his health since his rescue foster placement and he loves getting outdoors to work out his improved lungs and loosened joints. Although 8 years old he can race with the best of them on his really good days and loves greeting all humans. That greeting includes licks aka loves! He has taken to being house trained quickly and now does his business outside proudly while learning habits from the other dogs to go to the door and peek out while waiting and looking at you! “Come on my human, let me out!” And while he came to us malnourished, he has gained back his healthy weight and loves his food dish. His new friend pups in his foster home know to give him space when he has food in his dish. They eat separately and he respects their space as well. And although he would eat theirs too, he is kept on a regular feeding schedule as he will eat himself sick. Treats tie him over between eatings and peanut butter treats call his name over others! He does get protective of his humans when they have food as well so we set him up to be successful with his feedings at the same time. Outside of loving his food and his new friends, he loves playing with his basketball and chewing on his bones and noisy toys. On occasion, he and one of his fur friends engage in a great game of tug and war with the dog rope toy. Undoubtably is a lover and wants to be sure you feel loved too from giving the best head hug to cuddling right next to you on the couch. He will steal your heart with the best handshake, so be ready for your love to start from first site of his big pup smile!
This boy had a terrible life prior to being rescue. He was banished to the outdoors in the frigid winter, and scathing heat in the summer. His entire lonely existence was inside a pen (see photo of his previous life). He developed bronchitis that had been plaguing him for probably months, exacerbated by the harsh bitter temps. A kind soul finally convinced his owners to surrender him because his cough had gotten so severe. Previous records say his name is "Beast" and is 8 yrs old, but the vet thinks he is older. We gave him a new name which is now "Wheezy Bear". He is gentle, calm, and one of the saddest dogs we'd ever met when he arrived. He had simply given up hope that he would ever be loved or treated with dignity. We shared his story to our foster group and asked if there was anyone would could take mercy on this poor boy. An amazing family stepped right up and offered to give him refuge. He is LOVING life as an indoor dog and has even learned how fun toys can be! He is soaking up all the love in his foster home and is absolutely thriving! He is now ready for the next chapter of his life where he will be the spoiled prince of his very own castle with a family to call his own.
Wheezy Bear is a male Pitbull Terrier who was born approximately 2-4-16. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease and started on heartworm prevention. He has chronic coughing due to neglect and going for years with repeated bouts of bronchitis while with his former owner. The cough is managed and treated with medication to keep it at bay as much as possible. Wheezy Bear also has arthritis and has stiffness in his gait, likely due to the neglect he suffered prior to being rescued. Joint supplements are helpful for him and should be continued. Adoption fee is $200 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.
