For Adopt a Pet and the PEDIGREE® brand, October is all about finding homes for dogs in shelters. Adopt this month for a PEDIGREE® Wet Food Pouch and a chance to win a Homecoming-style photo shoot and shelter donation.
It's a quirky name and it fits me. I'm around 3 years old and spent the first 3+ years of my life in what my foster mom calls a hoarding situation so I didn't get the socialization most cats do. My coping mechanism is to hide and my foster mom continues to work with me to build my ever growing confidence. Let me tell you, it's working! I will now not only come out of my comfort spot, but will greet foster mom as well as (eventually) check out others who enter my room. I not only let my foster mom and others pet me, but I demand pets before I eat breakfast and dinner. I really like pets! A new exciting thing my foster mom and I do is play! When she initially tried to play with me, I'd either book it to my comfort spot, look at her in fear, or look at her like she was a crazy lady. Now, I will bat balls back to her, play with wand toys, and have recently found fun in a fluffy feather toy! This playing thing is fun! Oh, and treats! I didn't quite understand the fuss until I finally bit into one of the many my foster mom left for me. Now, I'll happily eat them as she tosses them toward me. I even ate one out of her hand! Yes, I'm a brave girl!
My foster mom thinks I might come out of my shell even more if I eventually have a cat friend to show me the ropes. There is a cat who lives in this house but we haven't been formally introduced yet. Foster mom is just about ready to begin the (slow) introductions which will also mean graduating into a larger space than the one I'm currently used to. Slow and patient is the comfortable pace for me.
My foster mom says I'm a very polite kitty. I don't scratch on anything other than my scratching posts which I use regularly. I'm a pro at using the litter box and don't mark anymore now that I'm spayed!
All I really need is a space I can go to when I'm scared and a lot of patience from my people. I'll slowly come out of my shell in my new home and will learn what it is to be part of a family of humans who love me.
From her foster: For the first couple of months: a quiet space of her own. No young children. No dogs, for sure. A cat friendly cat may be a good thing for her after she settles into her new space. Food with fish in it may cause me tummy issues.

More about this rescue
The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.
We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.
You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
