This adorable, black and white border collie, Milo came into rescue after being found abandoned in a barn as a young pup. He missed out on a couple of important socialization windows, and by the time we met him, he was pretty much scared of everything. Milo was reactive with other dogs and fearful of people. He quickly latched on to his new foster parents, but was a bit leery of the other 4 dogs here, as well as other people.
Meet the new and improved Milo! He was given extensive socialization experiences, starting out with just visiting the feed store and learning to greet people politely. He’s grown much more confident with people and learning to play nicely with other dogs. He met with the dogs of another foster for playtime at the dog park. It was rocky at first, but he now looks forward to meeting up with his friends. He is also much better at meeting strange dogs, still a bit reactive, but easily redirected.
Milo is a super smart little guy. He learned "sit" very quickly, is house trained, sleeps well, crate trained (but he'd really not, thank-you very much), and has pretty decent recall. He very much enjoys being outside, going for long walks around the farm, and running and wrestling with his pack, in our large fenced yard. He is not interested in toys, unless it is a peanut butter-filled Kong. He does like to “herd” his foster siblings while they run after the ball. Milo needs mental stimulation to help meet his high energy border collie needs. While very energetic, he does have an off switch and can move into cuddle mode pretty quickly.
Milo would probably be happiest with a younger, energetic dog, who knows how to play fetch, or as an only dog, but with lots of exercise time. He's not at all toy motivated, but treats are yummmmmy, as is praise...and a ride in the car.
This pup must have someone who is familiar with the breed and patient enough to help him continue to develop the confidence he needs. His leash manners still need work. Milo will need on-going obedience work.
If you want an energetic, silly, cute, cuddly, loving pup, look no further than Milo the Wonder Pup.
Milo is being fostered in the Kansas City area.
