My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

About Me

Age 3 years....Meet sweet Brut (renamed Lalu by his previous owners) whose heart overflows with love and constant tail wags.  Lalu was born in rescue when we took in his pregnant mama, Bubbles.   Unfortunately his adoptive family had to move out of the country and couldn’t take Lalu with them.  Lalu is now navigating the big world with the support of our rescue team and is ready to navigate the world with you. He is looking for a family that currently has a calm canine as he has lived most of his life with another dog and benefits from their companionship!

Lalu is great  with adults, older children, and other dogs. He wants to ensure his people don’t go too far and will follow you around the house.  He truly wants to please so may even help you with chores (wishful thinking)! He’s a gentle fella when taking treats and he is very intelligent! He will stand at the door if he needs to go out and maybe give you a little yelp to let you know he’s ready. Lalu knows basic commands like sit, stay, come, no, and focus.  He is quite the athlete retrieving tennis balls and even juggling a soccer ball.

When indoors, Lalu is a mellow guy. He is content with snuggling up next to you on a couch, or lounging while you work. Outdoors, he enjoys walks and exercise, especially in the evenings when he’s more energetic. He does have quite a strong prey drive.  Rabbits and squirrels are his nemesis, so he will pull on his leash when they cross paths and chase them out of your yard. This means that his backyard will be a rodent-free zone!  Given this, Lalu would not do well in a home with small furry friends (i.e, no cats).

Lalu’s leash skills are very good, and while he might still bark and pull a little at close dog encounters, he re-directs very well and moves on. Our team has introduced him to the Gentle Lead which has further enhanced his leash skills. His adoptive family will want to continue his leash training to keep him on his path to being the best canine companion! Did we mention, he LOVES HIS HUMANS!!!!

While Lalu enjoys companionship, he’s learning to be comfortable on his own. Being left alone can make him express his initial frustration with a few barks or whines, and his foster family has been patiently teaching him coping mechanisms. Having a canine companion is one of these coping mechanisms which is why we are hoping he can find a forever home that will give him not only a loving family, but also a four legged friend ready to help him experience new adventures and keep him company when his humans need to leave him alone.

While in foster care, Lalu enjoys socializing at doggie day care — he engages really well with canine friends and comes home one tired pup!

This smart boy isn’t just quick to learn, he’s got the energy to match. Lalu quickly picks up your cues, which makes training him a breeze. Although he is low energy most of the day, he is a very athletic dog. Daily runs, hikes, and adventures are his jam, not only keeping his body fit but keeping him relaxed. So, if you crave a running or hiking buddy, Lalu is your pup!

My Ideal Home

Lalu is a very sweet dog that loves humans. His ideal home includes an owner who is patient and has the time to dedicate to continue building his confidence. He would do best with an owner who works from home. Lalu loves children so we expect that he would be fine in a home with older children (10 years and older). He loves the company of another calm canine companion in the home so this is at the top of his wish list.  A yard where he can play and get exercise is another plus.
