My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Madison is a 2-3 year old lab/shepherd mix who recently arrived from an overcrowded shelter. She found herself on the dreaded urgent list; we got her just in time! Affectionately nicknamed Maddie by her foster family, she is an incredibly loving and sweet girl who is ready to thrive in her forever home.  She is a great size at just over 45 lbs and has incredibly soft fur. Maddie's perfect day would involve cuddling up next to her humans to binge watch TV... although no promises she doesn’t snore through the show!

Maddie’s favorite food group is cheese… any and all cheese please! This is very helpful for training. Maddie has been through a lot of changes lately. Her family surrendered her and her sister with no explanation after adopting them as puppies two years ago. She was understandably nervous upon arrival to a new environment with new sights and sounds. She can be easily surprised, but settles quickly back into her default relaxation mode. She’s working on leash walking and being more comfortable outdoors. Maddie recently learned how fun treat training can be and has already made incredible strides in one week.

Madison does pretty well in her crate and is generally good with house training when kept on a schedule.  She's excited to keep working on this skill and earning more treats! Maddie is great with other dogs, and easily developed friendships with the pups in her foster home.  She would do well in a home with other pups to nap next to and play with daily.  She'd also be happy to receive all of her humans' attention as an only dog.

Email almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com to learn more about Maddie and schedule a meet! She deserves for her next stop to be her true forever home.

(Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php . We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
