Take the Pet Home
Abel is affectionate, playful, smart, and obedient. He's also house-trained and a loyal companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his head on your lap, and is always ready for belly rubs.
Abel enjoys a solid 10 hours of sleep, as long as you’re right there sleeping, too. He settles beautifully after a 5-10 minute romp with a ball or frisbee, a game of hide-and-seek, or a nice walk filled with plenty of sniffing and marking. And while he might pull a bit (okay, maybe a lot) on his walks, he’s well-mannered in the home. He even knows a few tricks and performs with or without treats!
You can trust Abel to be calm and content when left out of his kennel for several hours—his longest solo time was seven hours, and he simply rested and kept watch for any "dangerous" Amazon trucks.
Abel would love a home without kids or other animals, where he can relax without being disturbed during meals. He’s independent about his space and prefers not to be poked or prodded. When grandkids or visitors are over, he happily hangs out in the bedroom if needed.
Truly, Abel is an easygoing guy who’s ready to bring so much love to the right home. He has a few quirks, but don’t we all?
Abel does take an oral medication twice a day to help prevent seizures.
Abel is from an owner surrender. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract.
To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page.
If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.
