Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet JT! Known as John Travolta at MCACC, this handsome guy came to us from the E-list after displaying fear in the shelter. He was timid around people and wouldn’t walk on a leash. When we went to evaluate him, however, he was incredibly sweet. He allowed pets all over and was actually more accepting of attention than most other shy dogs we meet. Despite his apprehension, we were confident that he could do well in a more stable environment. With the help of a wonderful foster, we were able to give JT a second chance. He had the biggest smile on his face while he was leaving the shelter, as though he knew he was leaving his bad days behind.
JT was initially given his own separate space to decompress in his foster home. As he has settled in, the other dogs in the home have helped him with his socialization and building his confidence. Ultimately he has adjusted very well. He has struggled a bit with marking inside, but his fosters are working with him and making progress. He otherwise hasn’t displayed any behavioral issues; he doesn’t counter-surf, jump on people, or chew on things he shouldn’t. When it’s needed, he knows and responds to “no” or other verbal correction. He also does well in a crate, though he can be unsupervised safely without it.
JT has a moderate amount of energy as far as huskies go, though he really enjoys playing with other dogs. He lives with both small and large dogs in his foster home and gets along well with all of them (he has not been tested with cats or other small animals). He also enjoys going for walks and even walks nicely on leash. After some exercise, he’s happy to settle down and snuggle up with his humans.
JT would make an amazing addition to any household looking for a relatively low-maintenance husky, whether you’re more active or just looking for a pup to cuddle with. He can still be a bit shy and will need continued socialization, but we have no doubt he will continue to improve with the help of a loving family. Though he hasn’t been tested with kids, we think he would do well with them as long as they know to respect his space and boundaries. His ideal home would have at least one other playful dog to keep him company and help build his confidence.
