Izzy-at-a-glance: 3 years old, female, spayed, Canaan Dog, 52 lbs., up-to-date on core vaccines, microchipped and heart worm negative. Izzy takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

Meet Izzy, a 3-year-old Canaan Dog with a heart of gold! This sweet girl was rescued overseas and is now looking for her forever home as her owners are being relocated overseas again where pets are not allowed. Izzy is a bit shy at first with new people, but with a little patience and love, she will blossom into a very loyal, affectionate and amazing family pet. Once she trusts her people, Izzy is a belly rub fanatic and will happily flop over for some love and attention. Her fang tooth even makes an appearance when she's feeling especially happy! Izzy is on medication to help with her anxiety around new people, which she takes like a pro.

This beautiful girl loves to play with other dogs and coexists with cats. She would thrive in a quiet or rural environment with experienced and patient owners. She enjoys spending time outdoors, running around with her furry friends at daycare, and lounging in the sun with a bone in tow.

Izzy's ideal day includes plenty of playtime followed by cuddles by the fireplace with her family. She is house-trained, crate trained, and ready to find a loving home where she can continue to grow and thrive. The first step to adopt of our adorable adoptable animals is to fill out an application on our website. We will reach out to you about your application once we receive it. The general steps of the process involve reviewing an application, conducting a phone interview with an adopter, doing a home visit, arranging a meet and greet and putting in place an adoption contract and collecting the adoption fee.

More about this rescue

LOVEPAWS was founded as an animal intake prevention program to help keep pets in homes and out of shelters. To do this, we offer various types of assistance to pet owners including our pet food pantry and our re-homing service. We help find new homes for pets whose owners cannot keep them but do not want to surrender their pet to the shelter. While our focus is on Prince George’s County, MD, we offer these services to the entire DC Metro area.

Our scope and mission has grown quickly since we were founded in 2019 and we now pull dogs and cats from open-admission, high-intake shelters in MD, VA and other Southern states. This has expanded our rescue to be able to save dogs and cats of all breeds. Our expanded mission is to save the lives of abandoned dogs and cats and place them in loving and permanent homes. While we are a non-breed-specific rescue, we are a pittie-friendly rescue that has a soft spot for the pit bulls at the Prince George’s County animal shelter. They face the heartbreaking reality of the county’s pit bull ban which makes them unavailable for adoption to the public. We are committed to stepping forward whenever we can and wherever there is the greatest need.

LOVEPAWS is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are an exclusively foster-based rescue with our foster network spanning MD, DC, and VA.
