My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shaggy - an affectionate, friendly, gentle, and playful senior dog! This happy boy is a snuggle bug who enjoys spending his days lounging around, going on nice walks, playing with his favourite toys, and eating frozen food-stuffed Kongs. Despite his cataracts, Shaggy gets around just fine, walks on stairs and can jump on couches and beds with minor assistance. He is crate-trained but prefers to spend his time with his people or his foster dog siblings. He even gets along with cats! Shaggy is housebroken, uses a pee pad, and is crate-trained. He already knows basic commands like "sit" and "shake" and can be left free in the house as he doesn't destroy things. He is also very food-motivated and always comes running when he hears the sound of a treat! At 11 years old, Shaggy is an easy-going and low-maintenance senior dog who is just looking for a loving home where he can spend his golden years. He has so much love and affection to give and will provide endless snuggles and companionship. If you think you can give Shaggy the loving home he deserves, please submit an adoption application today. Let's find this sweet boy his forever home!

Update: Our vet has determined Shaggy has food allergies and is doing great on a prescription diet which has been helping with his skin and fur allergies/sensitivity. He is itching much less. He is currently getting monthly cytopoint shots while his skin is healing. Shaggy also was seen by an eye specialist and it was determined that, although he would be able to undergo anesthesia, he has an additional eye issue that would keep him from having successful cataract procedure.

*Please note we currently have two dogs with similar names. Please refer to this dog as Shaggy#2 when filling out your application or emailing to avoid any confusions or delays in processing.*

We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821).

Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes.

If you are interested in adopting, we encourage you to please submit an application on our website today so that we can try and process and pre-approve any potential adopters prior to our next adoption event.

PLEASE USE THIS LINK TO SUBMIT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION. WE ONLY ACCEPT ADOPTION APPLICATIONS THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. ANY OTHERS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Process:
1.Fill out an application
2.Meet & Greet
3.Adoption contract & adoption fee

For an application go to: www.OscarAnimalRescue.org

The adoption process is to first fill out an application. You can go to www.OscarAnimalRescue.org to fill out the application. Once we call your references and if its a good fit for all, we schedule a meet and greet.

Our dogs/cats are not first come/first serve. We place our dogs/cats with the home that is the best fit for them. Not all animals are good in all homes, whether it’s their personalities, nature, or breed. We base our decision on what’s best for the dog/cat and the family. Thanks for understanding!

Please remember everyone who resides in the home must know about the adoption, and its not a surprise to any member of the family. We need everyone to be on board about adopting. Thank you for understanding.

Go meet their pets

PLEASE NOTE:

Our shelter is not open to the public and is by appointment only. That's because at OSCAR, one of our highest priorities is the health and well-being of the animals in our care. Unlike city shelters or pounds, whose residents are in place for a short time, as a no-kill shelter, our pets are often with us for weeks, months or even years. The shelter is the only safe place and home they know. When strangers, even well-meaning ones looking to adopt, walk through the shelter, it stresses our animals. We make appointments for potential adopters that submitted applications that have been approved through our process to meet our dogs either in our BarkYard or one of our meeting rooms. We’ll spend as much time as you need and introduce you to as many animals as you’d like to meet in order to make the best match and help you find the perfect new family member!

We hold pet adoption events as much as possible for anyone interested in our animals. It is a great chance for you to come down and meet a bunch of dogs/cats before deciding who is a good fit for you. If you are coming to an adoption event to see a certain dog/cat, please email ahead of time to make sure that dog/cat will be there that day. Please email 1-2 days before the event, as some animals are placed during the week and our list is constantly changing. Individual meet and greets with specific animals are by appointment only.

An approved application must be on file prior to scheduling of a meet and greet.
