My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Romeoville, IL-

PENNY really needs a home of her own where she can get the love and attention she deserves. Penny was born in October 2021, weighs 55 lbs, and is a Catahoula/pit mix (DNA was done by previous owners).

Penny was adopted from us spring of 2022 as a young, energetic puppy named Delta. Delta went to a home with 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time) and a husband and wife. They rarely left her alone, as one parent was most always home. They report she was a wonderful dog, fantastic with the kids, smart, loving.... but unfortunately their oldest daughter could not learn how to be nice to Penny and they thought it was in Penny's best interest to return her Spring 2023.

We always stand behind our dogs so we agreed to take her back, but with such a powerful, young, energetic dog- she has had to be kept separate from the others. She displays a lot of anxiousness around the other dogs and despite the previous owners saying they would take her to dog parks we believe she needs very slow and controlled meetings with new dogs.

She had been taken to 2 rounds of obedience classes. We have found that she knows her basic commands and will do them when you have a treat, but without a treat she seems to get selective hearing . She has a tendency to pull on a leash, but has been doing well with a harness and slip leash as a combo, but she definitely will need to continue leash training.

Penny is stressed out being separated. It was a huge transition from her going from always being with her people all day every day to being separated and not getting the undivided attention and only getting limited outings. We thought we had found another foster home for her, but there was an altercation between her and one of the resident dogs not more than 5 minutes after we left. We think things just went too fast for her and she really needed time to decompress.

We think she has amazing potential with a family/person that can work with her on basic manners and someone who can give her outlets to burn off her puppy energy. An adopter that will take things slow when it comes to dog introductions and understands that it is a process and not a race. One bad intro can ruin a relationship.

Penny has had exposure to a dog savvy cat and after the initial excitement she can walk by him on a leash without bothering him. We are not sure is she should be loose with a cat yet, but she shows potential for co-existing with a cat.

Do you know someone that would be a great dog mom or dog dad to Penny? Please tag them in this post! Share!!

Penny's adoption fee of $200 will be put towards a mutually agreed upon training class.

Her previous family had this to say about Penny:

"Penny is a wonderful girl who loves to play tug of war/probably her favorite game of all. She loves to go on long runs and is pretty good with keeping pace with her human without pulling. She is really great with kids and has a watchful eye for them as well. She has loads of energy and would be best suited with a family that could provide a nice size backyard or frequent trips to the dog park.
She's really good with getting to know and playing with other dogs. She has stopped growing for the most part and should maintain her current weight. If you give her a nice beef bone or new chew toy, she'll go off to her favorite spot and work on it for quite some time.

She's getting better at walking on a leash but still needs a little guidance and patients with it. Penny is pure muscle and will need someone to help her complete her leash training. She is getting better on the leash as time goes on, but could still use some work in that department.

She is generally really good about not chewing things up, including kid's toys. She knows the difference between her toys and kid's toys, stuffed animals included. She loves to cuddle and take naps. She really loves people and enjoys lots of interaction with them. She's a fast learner and really makes training easy, especially when there's high value treats involved. Penny loves to show off the skills she has learned.

She really is an awesome family dog and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. She has grown up with two young kids that range from 2-4 years of age and is so good with them. There has never been any worry about her and her interactions with the kids. She loves to play with them as much as she can. She's so gentle with them and seems to understand the strength difference between her and the kids."

More about this rescue

A rescue organization dedicated to helping you locate and adopt your "perfect" pooch.
No one, or nothing, is perfect....this includes dogs, but we firmly believe that there is a "perfect" dog for everyone. This doesn't mean our dogs will not have accidents in the house, or bark at times you don't want them to, or chew on your good shoes. They are dogs and they will require training and structure, but their flaws make them truly unique, beautiful, and "perfect" for the right family.

Perfect Pooches Adoption Agency (PPAA) is dedicated to working with each family to ensure we try to find a dog that will be a match with your lifestyle, needs, and wants. If we do not currently have a dog that is a match we will do our best to help approved adopters locate a dog that would be a better fit.

Our pooches are rescue dogs that deserve a second chance. Please consider opening your heart and home to a new companion today!
