Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Tater is one of a kind. Currently in a foster home, he is extremely goofy and ultra affectionate. That being said, he's working on socialization & potty training.
Tater likes people, but can also be timid and take a bit to warm up. He can be reticent with men, specifically, but those who maintain a calm, assertive presence do well. If you give him a treat, that certainly doesn't hurt!.
He loves to rough-house with his current K9 roommate, so older kids would be best; though in general, he hasn't had much experience with the younger folk. Tater knows not his size and strength.
He does well at the dog park and wants to play with pretty much anything that moves. He currently co-exists with two cats, but only one will tolerate his presence. He does chase the tolerant cat around occasionally, but "leave it" corrects him, and Tater has never inflicted harm. Cat says, "nah, bro." They still sleep together!
This boy is a huge snuggler, demanding his lovins'; and is the epitome of joy and enthusiasm once he's comfortable. With patience, he can be the most loving, loyal companion you could ask for!

More about this shelter
Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center is an open admissions animal shelter and is home to dozens of animals looking for their forever homes. We are a Municipal pound for Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro so we take in all strays, abandoned animals, and owner surrenders. We have 40 dog runs and about 85 cat cages.
The Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center began operation in September of 2011. Since opening, we have successfully lowered the euthanasia rates for our community! Our shelter's current save rate is 95 percent, which is the direct result of our dedicated staff and volunteers working hard to finding these animals their forever homes. Please call the shelter with any questions regarding animals found on the website for more information.
We offer help to our community through education and assistance. With the help of other organizations we are able to spay/neuter animals in our community that the owners could otherwise not afford. With the help of our community we are on a mission to save every adoptable animal in our area.
