Chiquita is a sweetheart who is ready for her forever home! She is currently in a foster home in an apartment setting. She is a lower energy dog. Never had an accident. Not destructive. Fine home alone while her foster mom works her 9-5 job. Very friendly and loves everyone she`s met. She loves lounging outside and short walks. She`s a fan of hanging out on the couch & watching TV with her foster-mom. She gets bursts of energy in the evening where she may want to play. She was recently watched by a foster sitter with a 4 year old and 8 year old child who also has a young medium sized dog & senior small dog & Chiquita did great there! She would do well in a lot of different home environments. She came in to the shelter with another dog who she`d previously been living with but he has already been adopted. Chiquita is a very adaptable lady who would love her forever home. She is advocated for by ClassicCaninesATX who are helping to make bridges out of shelters for displaced mature pets.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
