My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 8 months

Size: 35 lbs

Estimated breed: Boston Terrier/Cattle Dog mix (among many other breeds, according to her DNA results!)

Perfect home: Active home, no kids under 12, no cats/small animals

Lucy is an 8-month old Boston terrier mix, whose personality far outweighs her size. She came to live with us when she was just a few weeks old after being rescued in Texas. In the time Lucy has been with us, we have watched her grow into herself. And what a character she has become!

Lucy lives with two other canine friends and a cat. Her and the cat have a mutual understanding. They are not exactly friends, but they respect each other's privacy (for the most part). As far as her canine siblings, Lucy has a strong bond with our Bernese Mountain mix (Sammy).

Sammy and Lucy have been friends since the start. It's quite the combination with Lucy being all of maybe 30 lbs to Sammy's 90 lbs. Rough play is the order of the day, with Lucy regularly ending up airborne after Sammy decides he's had enough and tosses her out of the way. Lucy, not one to give up easily, comes back for more and more. This cycle continues until Lucy tires out and heads to her crate or the couch to rest.

Speaking of crates, Lucy is crate trained and does very will with in. In fact, she usually goes in on her own when she wants alone time, or when we get ready to wind down our evening. Lucy is also excellent with being house broken and accidents are few if any in recent months.

Lucy is very independent and thinks she's a BID dog. She is a bit headstrong with leash training, and also has a very active prey drive. If Lucy sees a squirrel or other small critter, she gets pretty excited and it is tough to break her focus.

Lucy would do best in a home with another large canine companion and a fenced yard. She loves her big brother Sammy and often cuddles with him when they tire out after their backyard wrestling matches. She looks to him constantly for entertainment, reducing some of the burden on us.

We are proud of the young lady Lucy has become. If you are looking for a smaller dog with the heart of a big dog and have the time to work with her, Lucy would love to meet you!

Additional adoption info

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Nirvana Animal Rescue! Our adoption process is in place to ensure we find you the perfect match. The process includes the following steps:

Submission of online application.

Volunteer review of your application, including a background check on all adults living in the home, checking personal references, contacting your landlord if you rent, and contacting your veterinarian if you have current pets.

Phone interview with a volunteer to discuss the answers on your online application, share more information about Nirvana Animal Rescue, and answer any questions you have.

Virtual home visit with a volunteer to review your home and yard and ensure it is a safe environment for a dog.

If your application passes the above steps, the final step is arranging a time for your entire family, including resident dogs, to meet the dog you’d like to adopt! We require that everyone in the family meet the new dog before fully approving the adoption.
