Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet Peanut! Peanut can be a bit nervous when meeting new people, but with a little time and a handful of yummy treats, he'll be in your lap! That's why he is searching for a quieter home that will allow him time to decompress and gain some confidence. He has done well in a previous home with children as young as 5 but will likely be jumpy once he gets comfortable in his new family. He has met other dogs and done well! However, he would like to meet any new canine family members before coming home since he is a little nervous being in the shelter. Ask one of our adoption counselor about setting up a meet and greet while you are here.
Although Peanut is available for adoption, he is hanging out in a quiet back room away from the hustle and bustle of the adoption floor. Just ask an adoption counselor, and we will set you up in our visiting rooms.

You’ll meet an Adoption Counselor to go over applications and discuss the animal you’re considering. We work with you to ensure your family, home and new family member is a perfect fit.
2. We’ll review all the documents and permissions (support from other adults in home, landlord permission and home ownership verification).
3. If your adoption is approved, your new pet can go home with you the same day providing they have had their spay/neuter surgery. If they haven't had their surgery yet, we will let you know when their surgery is scheduled and you can usually pick them up the next day.

For 133 years, the Capital Area Humane Society has been sheltering homeless animals, fighting animal cruelty and neglect, and offering programs to address the needs of animals in our community. More than 92 percent of our funding is provided by donations and fees for services. We are not a government agency, and we do not receive general operating support from national organizations. The Capital Area Humane Society relies on the support of private donors and volunteers to make our work possible.
Since 1883 the Capital Area Humane Society has been dedicated to providing only the highest quality of care for everyone we serve, animals and people alike. We are a team of experts—skilled, caring and compassionate people dedicated to our mission of fighting animal cruelty, helping animals in need and advocating for their well-being.
