THis guy, is a real sweetheart. He was surrendered to the city shelter after being at the same home his entire life. He was initially pretty depressed but has settled in well at his foster home and we feel that Max will do well in any loving and patient home.
Max is house trained, crate trained and gets along with the other 4 dogs in his foster home. Max does bark at new dogs and new people when they first come into his space but once he is used to them, which doesn't take very long, he is fine and pretty much goes on about his business.
Big Max is named that because he is in need of weight loss. He is clearly a pug with chihuahua thrown in there. and he has the pug build. He also snores when wide awake. The snoring is increased with his extra pounds so weight loss is a priority for Max. We stop short of calling him "special needs", But his person will need to commit to his weight loss goal and be diligent about getting his weight down so he can stay healthy. His weight could contribute to many health issues that we want to avoid for this sweet doggy! Chihuahua Rescue is going to support the adopter with his journey to an ideal weight.
Max is 7 years old and current on vaccines, He is microchipped, neutered, and heart worm tested negative. He has started on prevention for fleas and heartworm. Max's current weight is 25# and we are working towards a weight of 20# and then will reassess to see how he looks at that weight. Max's adoption fee is $350.

**If you are unable to pay the adoption fee ($250 and up), we are unable to place a dog in your care. Being unable to meet the financial obligations of pet care (recurrent or emergent) is one of many reasons why so many of these pets end up in rescue. It's not lack of love.**
We require an adoption application, and then we will check references. We also check with vets. If the person is not LOCAL then we will partner with a local animal control to complete a home visit.

We require an adoption contract to be signed to finalize the adoption process and we have an agreement that all our pets are to be Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. pets for LIFE. In other words, in the event that they can not stay in their adoptive home, they are not to be surrendered to another individual or rescue.

Chihuahua Rescue Indiana Inc. is a non profit, all volunteer rescue working with Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The pets are housed in individual volunteer foster homes, not kennels or shelters until they are adopted permanently. We get to know our animals and therefore can tell the potential adopter what the traits of the animal are and what home would be the best for the pet.
