My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Capricorn and I am looking for my fur-ever home. I heard that I used to live in a home with several dogs until my owner died. Luckily the volunteers at Almost Home Foundation saved me so I could have a second chance. I am currently in a foster home with two adult humans and two doggie sisters while I wait to be adopted.

My foster parents say that I have come a long way. When I first arrived, I was terrified of everything. I don’t know if this was just my way of decompressing or if I am just a naturally nervous dog or perhaps both. But with love, patience, and encouragement, I slowly came out of my shell. I am still nervous but my personality is starting to show, especially when I am out in the backyard. I’m like a totally different dog out there, running around and having fun.

In terms of my other qualities, I am dog-friendly and housebroken. I am also crate-trained. In fact, I love my crate. It’s my own little den where I feel safe and comfortable. I am fine being home alone when my foster parents go to work. Just put me in my crate with a Kong toy and a blanket and I’m a happy camper. I am very skittish so children would be too scary for me. Also, an overly busy home with lots of people coming-and-going would be overwhelming, too. I have not been very cuddly with people but I will sometimes let my foster mom pet me. I’m starting to sort of come around to my foster dad but trusting him is still a work-in-progress. I am up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped, heartworm negative, and neutered. I weigh about 14 pounds. I should probably gain a pound or so.

In terms of a forever home, I need someone with lots of love and patience to help me learn to trust. I am not a social butterfly that wants to meet everyone. Previous experience with scared/skittish dogs is a plus but not a must. Since I am still figuring out leash-walking, I will also need a secure fenced yard for potty-time. It doesn`t need to be a big yard, just a secure one.

Does this sound like you? Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so, email dogs@almosthomefoundation.org to get in touch with my foster parents.

More about this rescue

We are in need of Foster Homes for our homeless animals!!! Can you help?

What is a Foster Home?
A foster home takes in one of our homeless animals rather than boarding them at the kennel and cares for it until we find a permanent loving home. Almost Home Foundation pays for the all animal's food and medical expenses. The foster home learns the animal's temperament and behaviors. The foster home learns if they get along with other animals. The foster home provides insights on the animals that helps Almost Home Foundation look for the right home for the animal.

Please help!! Just fill out this form and we will contact you or call 630-582-3738 and leave a message letting us know that you are interested in fostering!

We are an all-volunteer, registered, not-for-profit 501c3 animal rescue group. Our mission is to save adoptable dogs and cats from being destroyed by finding permanent, loving homes. For details, visit us online at www.almosthomefoundation.org.

Almost Home Foundation is always looking for volunteers to handle dogs at adoption shows, set up adoption shows, write for the newsletter, photograph events, or foster animals. For a list of opportunities, visit online at www.volunteermatch.org
or www.almosthomefoundation.org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are a Rescue not a Shelter. This simply means we do not own a building where we house animals. We look for loving foster homes that will give temporary care and love on the animal’s journey to a permanent, loving home. When a foster home is not available, we will board the animal at a boarding kennel.

Our 5-year goal is to have a shelter. This is an aggressive goal that will take many donations and memberships. We will strive for this goal with a great team of volunteers and help from people like you! Please become a member, become a sponsor or make a donation.

Our animals are found strayed and brought in from the police. After being held for 7 days, we evaluate the temperament of the animal and determine if the animal is suitable to be a pet. On rare occasion, we will also rescue animals that are in desperate situations where the rescue makes the difference between life and death. We do not accept Owner Give-ups.
