JOJO IS A SHIH-TZU!

5/12/24 -At first, I thought I just lost my way (due to me only having the one eye). Then I thought, I must have gotten out accidentally and my owners didn’t know how to find me. Now, I’m starting to think that someone purposely put me out on my own. I don’t have 100% proof of that, but all roads are leading there, and I’m just SHOCKED and DISMAYED! Yes, SHOCKED and DISMAYED!

Many, many, many attempts were made to find my “owners”, but apparently, they don’t wish to be my owners any longer. So, sometimes you just have to accept the fact that things will never go back to how they used to be, and that this ending, is really a new beginning.

I’m in a foster home now that I love. There are other small dogs around and I’m fine with them. I especially love one of the senior female dogs and we sleep in a dog bed together all day. She’s really cool. She isn’t rambunctious and all. I am not a fan of,and will not choose to live with, larger dogs. They make me uncomfortable, and my ugly face comes out when I’m around them. However, I adore the cats in my foster home, so I don’t mind if you have any of those.

My foster mom brought me to the doctor and we had a few items that needed to be addressed. I wasn’t previously neutered, and I’ve learned that is a big no-no here in rescue land. So I was immediately neutered. Doesn’t make a difference to me, I don’t want children. I also had my teeth cleaned while I was under. They are perfect now and I only lost one. It seems that I had something called “calcium oxalate crystals” in my urine. They x-rayed and I’m happy to report that I did not have any bladder stones. However, since I would be susceptible to get them in the future, I need to only eat a special diet. I’m now on Hills Science Diet C/D. They carry it at all the cool pet stores, but you do need a prescription from the vet. .

When I first arrived at my foster home, I fell in love with the lady of the house immediately. The man, well, let’s just say, “he took a little longer”. But, I am happy to report that I love him now too. I’m sure some male in my life previously wasn’t nice to me, hence the hesitant behavior with men. But that doesn’t mean I can’t love one just like I do my foster dad now. He will just have to be gentle with me, and take it slow. And also understand that I might bark in disapproval a time or two at first.

Since there are multiple four-leggers here, I don’t sleep in the bed with mom and dad, but since I get to pick my next parents, I will choose ones that I can sleep with. It would also be a huge plus if one of my parents was home during the day also. I just like the company.

I am a very good eater. Around here, we eat breakfast around 6:30 a.m. and supper around 4:00 p.m. and I clean my bowl each time. I do very well with baths and absolutely LOVE going for car rides. Foster mom lets me sit in her lap, holds onto my harness and I get to feel the wind in my hair. Oops, I almost forgot, if you don’t already have dog toys, you better run out and get a lot of them. An applicant that is in possession of a nicely stocked toy basket, will get more points from me.

I’m doing good in the potty department as long as I’m brought out often to be able to do my business. That’s where you being home during the day comes in handy. I did mark when I first arrived her, but foster mom slapped something called a belly band on me to help me learn and it’s working. I seem to walk good with a harness and leash and it’s good for keeping my toned body. I still do like my fenced in back yard though to run and play and get some sun. When mom and dad settle for the evening and relax and watch tv, I love to get on the sofa with them and lay on my blankie. I also love to be held and sit with my people. I do give kisses, but it takes a little while.

Foster mom says that I have a loud bark when I hear something or see a new male human for the first time, so she thinks an apartment or attached living space wouldn’t be best for me… or you. I’m not so much what you would call a Velcro dog, but I will make sure I know where foster mom is and if she stays in another room too long, I go check on her. I think that’s just being chivalrous.

Now, who wouldn’t want an attractive, mature, sweet-natured (except around men and large dogs), one-eyed, Shih-tzu in their life? Well, I mean besides my last owners, but apparently they didn’t know a good thing when they had it. I’m sure you are smarter than they were. But I’ll be the judge of that!
