Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Melon's estimated DOB is 07/19/2021 and he's a brindle Boxer. He came to the Haven of the Ozarks with another dog by the name of Cantaloupe. They are two very shy, reserved pups that were found roaming a neighborhood. We later found out that their owner had passed away and that's why they were out roaming, probably in search of food and water. But lucky for them they picked the perfect neighborhood to seek out their basic needs because once everyone noticed them, they all came together and began putting out food, water and trying to gain their trust. This process took about two months because these two caught on to what people were trying to do and would not go into traps, they had set for them so they could get them to us so we could help these sweet pups try and understand that not all people are bad and that we just wanted to help. We at the Haven of the Ozarks believe that with a lot of time, basic training and patience that these two sweeties can grow to trust someone and be able to eventually live the happy healthy life's they deserve. We think that it would need to be someone that is willing to come out for a few days and spend time with them in their kennel and shower them with treats and love to gain trust before they went home just to make the transition from our shelter to a home easier on them. We've recently brought both pups into the office to hang out and Melon warms up much more quickly than his sister.
All of our pets are fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and microchipped. The Haven of the Ozarks is open form 9am-4pm, seven days a week. For more information, please email us at havenozarksanctuary@gmail.com, or give us a call at 417-835-3647.

More about this shelter
Our Mission Statement
To rescue the abused, abandoned, and dumped animals in the area. To provide loving care, medical attention, and socialization in as homelike an environment as possible. To provide sanctuary to those deemed "unadoptable". To educate the public on humane treatment of animals and the importance and impact of spaying and neutering dogs and cats. To do our part to put an end to pet overpopulation, abuse, and inhumane treatment of animals. Euthanasia is necessary to be humane to a pet, not to control population.
Who we are
Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We are a no kill pet adoption facility in Washburn, MO placing approximately 530 animals each year in to loving homes. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for animals in our care. Only animals suffering from significant medical issues or those that pose a danger are humanely euthanized. We offer lifetime sanctuary to any pet adopted from us. Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary has been serving area animals since 1995.
We are a licensed animal shelter located on 11 acres near Cassville in Southwest Missouri. Our cats live in community rooms with plenty of space to climb, play, and socialize. Our dogs live in large, outdoor pens. They enjoy access to fresh water, food, shelter, and shade, with swimming pools during warm weather.
We are a non-profit 501 c 3 organization funded through donations. We are NOT taxpayer funded.
Volunteers are welcome any day. Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. For more information visit https://www.havenoftheozarks.org/get-involved.
