Maine Coon Rescue cannot guarantee the parentage or breed of cats on this site. THE FOLLOWING CAT IS BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME.
Tempy (aka Delilah, Elphie, Cinder Noodle) is a playful, high-energy Maine Coon Purebred kitten (without papers).
She is about 5.5 months old. She is developing typical Main Coon traits and personality. While still quiet, she is learning more vocalizations, such as trills, soft meows, and chirps. She has a loud rumbling purr.
She is long and tall with medium-length silky black fur with silver markings on her chest, stomach, and tail and red highlight. Her tail is exceptionally long and fluffy. She is developing a neck ruff and ear tufts and has fur tufts on the pads of her feet.
Tempy is a joy to have in our home. She has bonded with our 2 male Main Coon cats, so would do best in a home with an older cat sibling who has a care-taking yet playful personality. She follows her 2 foster brothers everywhere, and they play wonderfully together. Her older foster brother has taken on the main care-taking role, cleaning her, protecting her, and teaching her all things "cat." Her younger foster brother is either protective of her or a tattle-taler and will meow if he feels she is doing something "dangerous" to alert the human foster mom. He's also her more rowdy playmate. She would likely not do well as an only cat.
Tempy is learning to remain calm while being petted. She is a very high-energy, playful kitten, though, so teeth and claws often come out during her interactions with her human foster family. Her claws are sharp with hooked tips, so we recommend against placement in a home with babies, young children, or seniors. We also recommend potential adopters have prior experience with kittens and the Maine Coon breed.
She accepts being picked up and held for short periods of time. She is not a lap cat, preferring to sit near her humans. She is used to living with two adults who work from home and two teenagers who are home a lot of the time. As a result, it would be best for her to go to a forever home where she will have human companionship most of the day and night as this is all she has known.
Tempy will need a lot of enrichment in her forever home to support her physical activity level and her intelligence--cat trees, toys, hiding spots, food dispensers, etc. She is learning to use a horizontal scratching lounge, but still sometimes uses the bed as a scratching post.
Tempy does well with our small poodle/Jack Russel terrier mix. They do not play together but they do sit nicely together. We have a larger dog, but the two have not interacted as our larger dog is rambunctious, and she is still small. As such, we've kept them apart for safety, so it is unknown how she would be with larger dogs.
Tempy has a clean bill of health and has been well-behaved during her vet visits. She does not like being confined to a pet carrier or any other type of small environment and does not like riding in a car.
