Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Memphis is searching for his unicorn adopter.
Memphis is a 2-year-old pittie/catahoula mix (plus some other things) who is ready to find his forever home, but he’s not looking for just anyone. Memphis needs a very special, patient person who understands his fears and is willing to meet him where he is.
Memphis is terrified of new people. Thanks to working with a trainer, he’s come so far, but he still doesn’t like when strangers approach him. He needs an adopter who won’t put him in situations that set him up to fail. When someone asks, “Your dog is so cute. Can I pet him?” Memphis needs a person who will advocate for him and make sure people give him space.
Here’s Memphis’ must haves in a forever home:
*A fenced-in yard. He loves leash walks, but he needs a safe, private space to run and play without the stress of strangers nearby. (No apartments or townhomes for this guy…... too many strangers close by.)
*A safe spot when company comes over, so he can decompress and feel secure.
*Someone who understands that he takes time to trust, but once he does, he’ll love you forever. He will more than likely require multiple meet and greets where he just walks along side of his potential adopter.
The good news? Memphis has the sweetest soul. Once you’re “his person,” you’ll see just how amazing he is. He loves giving hugs, snuggling close, and insists on sleeping under the blanket right next to his human at night.
While he might look and sound intimidating when he is showing his fear, he is also a big derp who loves to romp around the yard and talk to you.
He’s currently thriving in his foster home with both dogs and cats. He loves to play with other pups, but he would also be perfectly happy being the only dog soaking up all the love. He has done well with kids in the past, but because of his fear based reactions, we do think it’s best if there are not kids in the home.
Memphis may not be the easiest dog, but he is absolutely worth it. His trainer, Tommy, with Knoxville K9 Academy has also graciously offered his future adopter some sessions to learn more about Memphis and how to handle his fear and continue building his confidence.
If you think you might be Memphis’ unicorn adopter, please reach out. We would love to introduce you.
