Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
My name is Gage, and I'm a 3 1/2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix with a handsome brown and white coat. I'm a sturdy fellow, weighing 53 pounds. I've been neutered and vaccinated.
I'm house (potty), crate, and leash trained. I have a strong prey drive. If I spot a cat or a small animal, my instincts kick in. But don't worry, I respond well to corrections and am otherwise a perfect gentleman. I'm very smart and pick up new things quickly. I'll even bark to let you know when it's time for a bathroom break.
I absolutely adore head and butt scratches, and I'm quite the love bug. I enjoy sitting in laps, getting petted, and just chilling on the couch with my humans. I have this adorable habit of scooting up against you for pets, and I'm known to lean in for some extra love.
I know basic commands like sit and shake, and I'm always eager to learn more. I do have a habit of chewing, so I'd benefit from some additional training to refine my manners. I love treats, bones, peanut butter, rope toys, and anything that's hard, chewable, and safe for dogs.
My past is a bit of a mystery; I was found as a stray and had a close call at Memphis Animal Services, but thankfully, For the Love of Woofers rescued me before I was euthanized. You might notice some scars on me, and one of my ears looks like it's been through a lot. We don’t know if I may have been used as a bait dog or what I have been through as a stray surviving on the streets. I do have some behaviors that may be a result of my unknown past. I do guard my food, toys, and bones, so I'd fit best in a home with older children who understand the importance of giving me space during meals and playtime. I tend to eat quickly, so a slow feeder would be a great idea for me. I thrive as the only pet or with dogs who are more on the submissive side and won't challenge me. My past may not have been kind, but I'm looking forward to a brighter future with a family who can be patient with me and show me love.
Currently, I'm in Burkesville, Kentucky, but for the right home, I can be transported to nearby states. If you're looking for a smart, loving companion who's eager to start a new chapter, I'm your boy. Fill out an application today!
