Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Meet the sweet, petite and playful Erna. Erna is about 4 years old and the perfect medium sized pup who makes a great lap dog and adventure pal. Because of Erna`s mature age, she is already housetrained and checks in with her volunteer and staff handler & walks!
Erna is filled with love and will be sure to give you affection and cuddles. She also is playful and loves her walk time, play yard time where she can roam free, even went on an outing recently where she enjoyed the Lady Bird Trail, a Volunteer`s home (perfect house guest) and a car ride where she smiled the whole way there (see pictures!).
Erna would do best in a home where she can get ample walks or a place with a yard! She does love to chase pesky squirrels so she will keep you alert on walks if they are out and about!
While Erna has had time in foster, we`ve learned she would do just fine as an only dog if that is your cup of tea! She does appreciate slower intros with new comers to the home but is treat motivated and would do so well with an adopter or foster who can build her confidence in those situations - treats are key! She’s smart and would love to work on puzzles too. She has picked up quickly on patterns and routines and has all the potential once she can get some stability in her future home!
Erna is deserving of love, loyalty and a consistent caregiver. If you want to meet this sweet, petite and smart girl, we urge you to come to AAC today!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
