Meet the sweet, petite and playful Erna. Erna is about 4 years old and the perfect medium sized pup who makes a great lap dog and adventure pal. Because of Erna`s mature age, she is already housetrained (few accidents in kennel, frequently uses designated spots at shelter) and leash trained (checks in with her volunteer and staff handler & walks loose and calm).

Erna is filled with love and will be sure to give you and the family affection and cuddles. She also is playful and loves her walk time, play yard time where she can roam free, even went on an outing recently where she enjoyed the Lady Bird Trail, a Volunteer`s home (perfect house guest) and a cat ride where she smiled the whole way there (see pictures!).

Erna is deserving of love, loyalty and a consistent caregiver. If you want to meet this sweet, petite and smart girl, we urge you to come to AAC today!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
