Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Joe In May, my three siblings and I were surrendered to the HSHC due to our owner losing her home. My sibs have all been adopted, but I am still waiting. While none of us were known for our extroverted personality, I am the most unsocialized one in the bunch. Even though I am the biggest of the four (14.8 pounds!), I am super shy. I am 4-years-old, neutered, litterbox trained, and have always lived with cats and kids. My coat is incredibly soft, and I enjoy a good petting session when I feel brave. I spent some time at the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe (SKCC), where I soon found a big grey doughnut that I fit perfectly! It became my favorite place to sleep and stay out of the way of people entering the cafe. One of the staff members unzipped the doughnut so the interviewer lady could at least see me. I allowed her to pet my head and was very polite to her. However, because I was still fearful and easily startled, I was moved into a foster home to help me decompress. I just returned to the shelter and am still a bit anxious about everything. Even though I am a friendly guy, I won`t be very outgoing with you initially. My new family will need to give me plenty of time to settle into my new home. I may need more time than you think necessary to feel comfortable. But I`m worth the wait. 8-20-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
