Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE: 5/31/24: Ryder has settled into our home and does well with the dogs he has been around and has also done well with older children. He really seems like he wants to please and he likes to be with his people. He is crate trained and most likely, housebroken also. He has not shown any aggressive behavior at our home. He should fit into most home situations. I would probably not risk small children being in the home only because of what his finder had stated initially to us (which was the basis for our original bio since we did not know anything about him other than what we were told she observed in her own home). He would make a great companion for anyone who could spend a lot of time with him as that seems to be what makes him the happiest.
Ryder was found as a stray and was never claimed after his finder's efforts. His finder was going to keep him however Ryder does not like kids at all and she was worried that he may bite her grandchildren. He also is not good with chickens, which she also had. Ryder does not do really seem to like other dogs much either. He can be a bit snippy initially so don't try to force yourself on him right away but once he finds his people, he bonds quickly to them and is very friendly with those in his circle. Ryder just seems to be one of those small dogs with a lot of attitude and that "big dog" complex. His finder stated that Ryder seems to prefer men as he would sit with her husband watching ball games for hours, enjoying being a couch potato. She stated that Ryder is housebroken but we never guarantee that. He does appear to be completely crate trained though as well. Since Ryder was found as a stray, we really have no history on him or why he seems to want to be your one and only. We believe Ryder to be a young dog around a year old and he looks to be a papillon mix but we could be way off on his breed type so don't hold us to specifics. His finder says Ryder will be a fantastic companion for an adult only home with no other pets (or chickens).
Ryder saw the vet on 5/1/24 and he was neutered at that time. He was found to have no issues on his exam Ryder is heartworm negative but did test positive for hookworms so we have given him a drontal to treat the hookworms and started him on Simparica Trio for heartworm prevention and flea control. He weighed 19.7 pounds as of 5/1/24.
If interested in giving Ryder his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Ryder's adoption fee will be $250 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Ryder based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
