Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Beau is a purebred standard poodle born on 7/22/23 so he is still very young and under a year old. Beau was surrendered because his family didn't have time to socialize him well and because of this, Beau is very skittish and fearful in new situations, and with new people. Beau is intimidated easily by other dogs but does well with them once he has time to get to know them and vice versa. If you have other dogs, a slow, easy introduction is recommended so that Beau does not get scared and you end up having a fight or an issue because of it. Beau would not do well with small children because of his fearful nature. He would be fine with older children who can give him his space and his own time to figure things out. Beau will need a patient, understanding family who won't want to rush him. Beau is a very sweet dog once he feels safe and secure and he welcomes attention once he is in that place. Beau does like his food so treat motivation may be a good way to win his heart and his trust but again do so at his pace and don't force it. Beau will walk on a leash and he rides well. Beau enjoys being outside but is not a dog who needs to be really active or playful. He is actually pretty calm and easy going once he gets comfortable. His previous owner groomed him with no issues so grooming should not be a problem but again, I would wait until he feels comfortable with you and your touch. Beau would greatly benefit from getting out and about and learning that the world isn't out to hurt him. Confidence building will go a long way to making him a more social dog who isnt terrified of his own shadow. Beau needs some work but he will be so worth the effort!
Beau saw the vet on 5/1/24 and he was neutered at that time. It was discovered that he was a bilateral cryptorchid (both testicles were retained) but we have taken care of that for him so he will not have to worry about future testicular cancer or complications from retained testicles. He was found to have some dry, flaky skin and was given cefpodixime proxetil to treat the skin. Beau is heartworm negative but did test positive for hookworms so we have given him a drontal to treat the hookworms and started him on Simparica Trio for heartworm prevention and flea control. He weighed 37.8 pounds as of 5/1/24.
If interested in giving Beau his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Beau's adoption fee will be $400 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Beau based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
