Meet Maggie, an energetic bundle of joy! Her youthful spirit is infectious, filling the room with a lively atmosphere. She already weighs 63 pounds and is very playful, always ready to run, run, and run. When playtime is over, she`s just as happy to curl up for a cuddle and some petting but her independent streak allows her to be content on her own too. Despite her jumpy nature, Maggie is well leash trained. She knows the sit, stay, come, no, and kennel commands. She spent her days outside so she needs help with house training. Her protective nature shines through, making her a loyal companion. However, she can be wary of strangers, but with time, she warms up, showing her lovable side. She`s a bit rough-and-tumble when it comes to playtime, not just with dogs, but with cats, children, chickens, and even cows! This was why her family had to give her up. Maggie`s vibrant personality would make her a wonderful addition to any home. Adopt Maggie and bring a ray of sunshine into your life. (tw 11/15/2024)

Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Military Families - 50% of adoption fees waived for military personnel and veterans. (proof of eligibility required)
Any dog/puppy adopted at the same time as a cat/kitten will be adoptable at a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
