My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sonya is a Pitbull Terrier Mix, around 5.5 years old and weighs 48 lbs. We received an alert from Dallas Animal Shelter that they are full and will start to euthanize animals, so we went to DAS on Jan 29th, 2022 and she was the only dog among many that we took outside that was extremely happy to be with us and ready to play! She is great with kids (we have a toddler and a teenerger) and she is always excited to see new people!

She is the best dog to sleep and cuddle with, cause once she lays next to you, she won't move :). She has medium energy. She is a very sweet and happy one, but unfortunately, she doesn't get along with our other female dog, who came into our family before Sonya. We tried to make it work for 2.5 years, but they just constantly fight and last 3 times, there was serious emotional trauma for everyone in the household especially our toddler, as he witnessed them fighting multiple times, and both dogs got injured too, especially Sonya being smaller than the other female dog.

It's a hard decision for us, and we were procrastinating it but for Sonya's health and our current and future children we have to find her a new family where she won't be in danger. It will be great to stay in touch with a new family and get occasional updates about Sonya, as we love her dearly and we will miss her! It will be ideal if she is the only pet in the house or if there are only friendly male dogs. (We have a very friendly and chill male dog and Sonya never had issues with him). She is spayed and up to date on vaccination! One thing to note, that she does pull on walks so her ideal future owners will be an experienced dog owner who is willing to put in some training time.

Sonya is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

Additional adoption info

Adopting from The Love Pit means gaining a family member. It means gaining a network of pit bull advocates, ready to support you and provide you with all of the resources we can. Most importantly, adopting from The Love Pit saves lives. When you adopt, you're saving the life of your own dog, opening space in their foster home for another shelter dog in need, and creating space in the shelter kennel for a dog whose life would have otherwise been on the line. Your thanks for all the good you've done? Lots of love and pit bull kisses to enjoy for years to come.

Go meet their pets

We have monthly adoption events at different locations in Dallas and Fort Worth which are announced on our social media pages and will also be posted on our website.

We will also set up an appointment with you to meet the dog of your choosing.

More about this rescue

We are a foster/volunteer based 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue in Dallas, Texas. Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless pit bull type dogs in shelters and on the streets through rescue, rehabilitation, education, and advocacy.

Our goal is to educate the public about a breed that often falls victim to breed specific legislation, discrimination, and cruelty and promote responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter initiatives, vaccinations, and training resources.
