My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Shelly is a 2-year-old, 61 lb Pointer mix who, is an affectionate and sweet girl who is seeking a life of love, where she can star in your home movies and family photos. This beautiful girl is super smart, highly trainable, housetrained, great with other dogs, and oh-so-loyal. She has adorable freckles, a boopable nose, and an A+ body waggle every time she sees her people (we mean it, her entire lower half gets in on the wiggle action)! Shelly is a go-with-the-flow kind of gal, who can happily scamper along a hiking trail as well as be your weighted blanket on the couch. She is working hard on her leash manners and doubles her efforts for hot dogs or cheese. She gets along well with other dogs, seeking affection in a gentle, non-pushy manner.
She is looking for a family who can continue her training, and give her love and adventures. Shelly's ideal home would include another dog companion to help boost her confidence and a family committed to continuing her training. Bonus points for kids (she loves them!).

Here is what Shelly's fosters had to say about her:

"She take a little bit of time to warm up and trust you (for me and my kids this was a day or so, for my husband a bit longer) but she is incredibly sweet and wants to cuddle. She was fantastic with my boys - ages 8 and 11 - and really loved them too. We would crate her at night and when we left the house and she was a little hesitant to go into the crate (treats helped a lot!) but was fine once in there. She'd sleep through the night without a peep. Although she's strong, she doesn't pull on walks unless she sees a squirrel or something. She loves hiking and being in the outdoors so would be great for an active family.

Overall, she's a great snuggly dog who just wants to be loved.

More about this rescue

The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.

Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.

The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
