About: Gumby is a young brindle boy who has very little in common with the claymation character he’s named after- but he is a malleable young pup who is ready to be shaped into your new best friend! Gumby has struggled to find the right home since first arriving at the shelter on March 16, 2024, but with patience, training, and love, we know his forever home is out there!
Gumby has been described by his friends at the shelter as playful, energetic, funny, affectionate, and intelligent. He’s been a great field trip buddy too- he does well in the car, loves hikes, and enjoys adventures.
“Gumby is a lovable and loyal dog. He’s very energetic and needs daily exercise. Overall, a very sweet dog and loves toys.”
“Gumby is an amazing dog! He loves to do everything- he loves the car, laying on the couch, going on walks, and anything that includes a human. He did sleep alone on the couch all night without waking us up. We love him SO much!”
“Gumby is a teenager with the gangly limbs to prove it! At two years old, he has a lot of energy, which he likes to burn off with exercise and lots of play time. He loves toys, especially balls. He could discern toys from household items, which is great! He was housebroken and non-destructive during his stay. He likes being with people and greeted us with wiggles and tail wags. He`s a friendly, smart boy with a zest for life!”
Gumby has been adopted and returned several times related to issues stemming from resource guarding. He does not like to share his toys or food, so needs a savvy family that can create a safe environment suitable to Gumby’s needs. He is reportedly crate trained, and this will go far in creating that environment. While Gumby is able to politely share his shelter kennel and has been tolerant of other dogs in playgroup, he will likley be most successful as an only pet. Working with a professional dog trainer can also provide valuable guidance and support with regard to resource guarding behaviors.
Gumby is a young dog who needs guidance and support, and with that, has all the potential in the world to be a great companion!
