Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Gigi, a gorgeous, female, silver standard poodle, was rescued from a local shelter on 11/6/23, and her age was guesstimated to be about a year and a half. She weighed 41.4 pounds and was a little thin. While her coat wasn’t terrible, hair completely covered her beautiful eyes so that you couldn’t see them. After being brought up to date on vaccinations, she was groomed and it was easy to see what a gorgeous girl she is and her sweetness is every bit as spectacular as her looks. The groomer said that as she gets older her color will lighten to the color of her face, which was a beautiful silver color. The groomer said she is what is called a silver poodle. At the shelter they said she was good with everybody, dogs, cats, and people, and that definitely seems to be the case. She rides well in the car and in fact, she seems to love to ride in the car. She walks well on a leash and has not had any accidents in her foster mom’s house. She is an all-round super sweet girl. She is microchipped and was scheduled to be spayed on 11/16/23 but after her tummy upset continued and was not responding to meds the vet gave her, she became extremely ill and had to be hospitalized for 8 days. All tests came back negative, but she began to get better with the administration of Prednisone which led our vet to believe she might have Addison’s. She was rail thin when she was released back to the care of her foster mom. Our vet wanted her to weigh 50 pounds before she was spayed. She finally gained the weight and was spayed and tested heartworm negative on 3/12/24. Her daily dosage of prednisone was slowly decreased to 5 mg every other day, by the end of March and she is doing fantastic. We feel she is ready to find her forever home. Gigi is located in Arkansas and her foster mom thinks she is the best. The adoption donation for Gigi is $700 plus the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Gigi, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers.
After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home.
Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

We are a volunteer-based program. Most of our dogs come from the heavily overpopulated southern states, usually from Arkansas. We use Alpha Dog Transport to get your new family member home to you. They are wonderful, and we would not trust anyone else with our babies.

More about this rescue
We are a group of dedicated volunteers passionate about helping the underdog that has been tossed aside for whatever reason. Once we take a new animal into our group, we take them for complete vetting before we list them as available for adoption. We try to match each of our animals to the perfect home, and the perfect home to one of our dogs. We do not adopt our animals on a first come first serve basis.
Our volunteers know our dogs the best, and will be able to make better decisions on animal placements. Just because you are not selected for the animal you apply for, does not mean that you do not have a great home to offer to a rescued animal. We want the entire family to be a perfect match for a happily ever after story.
Our adoption fees vary from dog to dog. All the dogs in our care are supported only by donations. All the adoption donations we collect are spent in full on the care of the animals in our group, such as food, vetting, and heartworm preventative, flea and tick preventative, and any other medicine that might be required by the vet.
These dogs are not inexpensive to rescue but they are our passion, we will do all we can do give them a happy ending to a very sad beginning. We love our dogs and no matter what happens in the future if you cannot care for them, we do require that they be returned to us. 10 days or 10 years, it does not matter. We are honest and supportive; we will be here if you need us.
Desperate House Dogs reserves the right to deny any application for any reason without explanation. We do receive a lot of applications, just because you don't hear back from us right away does not mean your application has been denied.
