My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Did you know Buttercups represent humility, joy, new beginnings, happiness, and friendship? That`s a lot for such a sweet, tiny flower. But we think it`s a fitting name for this stunning, perky-eared girl. Buttercup came to us as a stray last week and we estimate her to be at least a year or so old. Is no one missing this beautiful girl??? She is a friendly, happy, wiggle-butt pup, and she is ready for a whole new beginning in a home where she can share her joy, friendship and love. Buttercup is at BAS and she is waiting to meet you.

Volunteer notes, 6/26/24:
Very sweet. Will play fetch with the tennis ball and will sit to be pet.

Dog Day Out notes, 5/28/24:
Buttercup was the sweetest girl! We had so much fun going to multiple parks (Davidson Park, City Park, Red Slide Park, and the Arboretum). At first she was overexcited and was jumping up a little bit, but that can be corrected with training. She loves to snuggle and cuddle you, and is perfect with car rides. She knows the `sit` command well, and is very treat motivated, so I’m sure she can learn many more commands. She’s a big fan of any love and pets, but the butt scratches are her favorite! Buttercup loves toys and any kind of enrichment. She is very attentive, but wary of new people walking nearby. She did bark once at some people walking past. She can get a tiny bit mouthy whenever you stop petting her--it`s as if she’s trying to move your hand back. She loves to play tug of war with the leash. Perfect friend for the day!

Things to know:

If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov and let us know you want to go ahead and adopt. You can still meet the pet before finalizing the adoption to make sure they are a great fit for you.

Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. You can see the current status of available pets on our website. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will be updated back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. Our website automatically updates every hour and displays all pets at BAS Pet Adoption & Resource Center or foster.

Visitation and adoption of pets in foster must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. Email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit or adoption of a pet in foster care.

BAS adopters also receive exclusive discounts on food, veterinary care, training, and more through our partners. All this is included in the adoption!

Adoption fees are very low and are sometimes waived as part of regular adoption special events through out the year. To see our current adoption fees and specials, visit burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS. Our goal is to ensure every pet has a positive outcome and gets to live life with a loving family.

To take home a pet, adopters or fosters only need to present a government-issued photo ID and be at least 18 years old. There is NO lengthy paperwork to fill out and NO intrusive or lengthy process.
