Peta's tale is one of heartache. She was living happily until her owner unexpectedly passed away. Left with nowhere to go, she came to our shelter, scared and alone. Over time, Peta came out of her shell and found a new family where she started to flourish. At just two years old, she had a full life ahead of her. Yet, fate dealt another blow when her new owner passed away, and their home caught fire. Peta was found hiding inside the house two days after the incident. She was returned to us, covered in soot, once again in search of a forever home. She is once again coming out of her shell, Her journey has been filled with sadness, but she is deserving of a joyful conclusion. We invite you to consider giving Peta the loving home she so desperately needs.

More about this shelter
At the Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark we are passionate about ensuring the protection and welfare of all animals in need. This is the legacy of our founder Robert Kleinstuber, who began the shelter in 1959 as a memorial to his beloved dog, Jeff.
Our mission is to protect and serve animals during their greatest time of need, assist our community pets and their people, and offer homeless pets a second chance at a first-rate life. By providing humane education along with free or low-cost resources, we hope to reduce the homeless pet population in our area.
We currently provide animal control impound services for 10 municipalities in Orange & Sullivan Counties and are proud to provide low-cost spay/neuter clinics, adoption and re-homing services, humane education, and community assistance to the tri-state area.
