Neptune is a magnificent 3-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier who was surrendered by his owner on August 29, 2024.
Neptune may look familiar to some of our volunteers and Facebook fans since Neptune was originally bought to the HSOV on December 14, 2023 after he was found on State Route 7 in the Marietta/Reno Ohio area. Neptune was not wearing a collar, but a microchip was detected. Our shelter staff attempted to locate his owner through the microchip data but was unable to do so since the individual to whom the microchip was registered had re-homed Neptune to a 'friend-of-a-friend' and no longer had any contact information (sigh).
This handsome guy has a sleek chocolate brown-and-white coat, white markings on his legs/paws, a long tail with a white tip on the end, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate nose on his pink/white muzzle, and cute 'cartoon ears'. You cannot look at Neptune's mischievous-looking face without smiling.
Neptune has a playful, fun-loving personality. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver who accompanied Neptune for his outdoor photos on December 16th. Neptune thoroughly enjoyed his '15-minutes of fame' and (like all of the HSOV dogs), he loved Emily.
Neptune weighs 62 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash.
In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Neptune was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.
Since Neptune was not reclaimed, he was neutered on February 15, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.
We did our usual 'Happy Dance' when Neptune was adopted on March 2, 2024 .. But Neptune's time in his new home was short-lived since he was returned to HSOV on April 24, 2024. It seems that Neptune was jumping the fence in his new home and making un-wanted social visits with his neighbors' dogs (and was not playing nice) ... So we would suggest Neptune find a home that he would not have to share with other dogs or be allowed to leaving his property unleashed.
Neptune is a happy boy with a very outgoing personality.
We were happy for Neptune when he was adopted on June 26, 2024 .. And we were sad for Neptune when he came back to HSOV on August 29, 2024 through no fault of his own. Neptune was loved by his new family <3 ... And they provided a wonderful update soon after he was in their home: "Neptune is fitting in our home so perfectly!! He loves our other pitbull and our baby. he is SO sweet and guards our baby, he even woke me up with kisses right before the baby started crying lol he kept looking back and forth from me to the bassinet anytime our little one made a noise. he cuddles with his new sister BabyDog and they're so playful with each other."
But sadly, his new family found themselves in a position where they could no longer take care of Neptune and made the difficult decision to return him on August 29th :(
Neptune enjoyed three wonderful months in a real home, so we know how sad this is for him to be back in a shelter kennel by himself.
