My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, I`m Rex! I`m in my golden years, but don`t let that fool you. I`m still a playful, curious pup at heart. I love toys, and I`m smart enough to know `sit` when I hear it. I`m a sweet soul, always ready for a cuddle and a gentle pat. My curiosity keeps me young, always ready to explore and learn new things. Despite my age, I`m full of life and love. Adopt me, and I promise to fill your life with joy, laughter, and unconditional love.

Email adoptions@southsuburbanhumane.org with any questions! We want to make the process of adopting a new pet as stress-free as possible.

All pets adopted from SSHS go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on routine vaccinations.

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society (SSHS) incorporated in 1970 as a small group of volunteers who brought homeless pets into their homes and worked to find them permanent homes. From those humble origins, we grew to a 501c3 nonprofit organization operating a 19,000 square foot animal resource campus in Matteson, IL that takes in more than 4,000 pets annually, a Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic, a Low-Cost Veterinary Services Clinic, and a variety of far-reaching community services. The SSHS annually impacts 20,000 pets and the people who love them through these programs.
