Meet Bissell!! This sweet boy is actually a land seal, but don't tell anyone, it's his secret. He's disguised himself as a dog, but every so often you'll see him tuck his ears back and go straight into "seal mode". His mission is to sneak his way into your home and your heart.
Bissell is 3 years old and 48 pounds - the perfect size for snuggles if you ask him. He enjoys a good cuddle sesh. He's also sure to cover you in kisses to show his appreciation for your love. He knows sit, and will often do it before he is asked, hoping for a treat! He's a smart guy who's still working on perfecting his leash walking skills (to be fair, seals don't walk on a leash, so we understand his confusion). But he's easy to redirect when necessary and is eager to show off his good boy skills! He has MASTERED the sad puppy dog eye look. If you're trying to convince a partner or family member to adopt a dog/seal just bring them to meet Bissell. He'll be sure to sad puppy dog eye them into agreement. Bissell loves to have his snoot to the ground. He follows his nose and is intrigued by all of the smells.
Bissel has met other dog pals at BARCS, he would do best with a tolerant friend and requests to meet any doggie roommates to make sure they are a good match.

Step 1: Check out the adoptable cats, dogs and small companion animals listed on our website. Animals with a blue “I’m in Foster” banner are not currently in our shelter. Check www.barcs.org for our adoption process for animals in foster homes.
Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.
Step 3: Tour our adoption rooms and write down the names of animals that you would like to meet. A volunteer or staff member will help you meet your chosen animals to make a match!
Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.
What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.
