My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Reiner
Nicknames: ReiRei. Reiner-Roo. Arugula. Reggie. Buddy. Bubba. Best Boy.
Sex: Male
Breed: Mixed breed
Age: 3.5 years
Weight: 65 lbs.
Before OMD: Reiner (fka Farris) and his 3 siblings became OMD pups in 2021, after they had been orphaned after their mom was killed. Reiner has lived with a loving family since his initial adoption in 2021, but he no longer gets along with the other dogs in the home. After working with their vet and trainers, his family has made the heartbreaking decision to have him rehomed to a family with no other dogs.
Key descriptors: Loyal. Loving. Athletic. Goofy. Playful. Silly. Sweet. Sensitive.
Energy level: He’ll match his person. Want to go on a long hike? He’s in. Want to act a fool playing in the backyard? He’s game. Want to be one with the couch? Make room for him next to you.
To quote his people: He deserves the entire world. He will love you so hard. Please love him just as hard back. You’ll be getting the best dog, a once in a lifetime dog.
What makes us laugh: His fondness for eating snow. When he gets extra excited and hops up and down like a bunny. How he’ll always search out a comfy pillow to rest his head.
What we love most: You get tail wags when you come home whether you’ve been gone for two seconds or two hours. He loves hard. His unwavering loyalty to his people.
What he loves: Splashing in rivers. Quality time with his humans. Peanut butter. Hiking. His flirt pole. Lick mats. Snuffle mats. Enrichment puzzles. Being told he’s a very good boy.
Doesn’t enjoy: Moving cars on the street (being IN the car is just fine, but walking by fast cars makes him nervous). Busy roads. Pedicures and playing footsie (aka having his paws touched). Getting on the scale (we can relate). Extremely creaky stairs.
Has the legs of: A kangaroo. A rabbit. A spring. Tigger. He can casually clear a four-foot fence.
Okay let’s brag for a second: He is excellent on leash, and he will not embarrass you by dragging you down the road. He can also catch a morsel of food on first toss 99% of the time (on the flip side, he’s been known to accidentally fall off the couch or trip on his way up the stairs)
What he knows: Sit. Down. Come. Stay. Wait. Leave it. Drop it. Find it. Up-up (onto furniture or other taller things, into cars, etc.). Go place.
Working on: Holding sit/down until released. A touch less exuberance when meeting new folks.
Dogs: Not in his home. He is a gentleman when he walks past them in public, but is a no-go on sharing his space.
Cats: No thank you.
Kids: We’d like him set up for success, so older kids only please.
House-trained: Perfectly.
Crate-trained: Yes, but he doesn’t enjoy it. He can be trusted to be left out alone. He won’t even take the delicious item you left on the counter.
His ideal home: Human(s) who want that once in a lifetime dog. A family who needs a best friend. Someone looking for a loyal and protective companion.
Reiner is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.
