My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Eli is truly a sweetheart. Gorgeous as can be - weighing in at about 65 pounds, at just over a year old, we think he believes he's a small lap dog. While he's so curious about the world around him, he's hesitant to get out of his shell and live it up! He thrives when he's got leadership from a person, and consistently looks for it. Whether he's at your side, or lying at your feet, he checks in all the time, very oriented towards his people. But that's when he's not out having a blast in doggy play-group! He's a very lovey dovey guy!

We know he wouldn't be anxious if he had the guidance throughout his whole life, but since he hasn't, he's unsure what to do with himself. Anytime we help him out, tell him what to do, when to do it, it lights up his world. Really helping him make sense of what's going on around him, and keeping him satisfied, feeling like he's apart of something. It's like a sudden rush of calmness rushes over him, and when he's being loved on, of course.

The times that we aren't able to hangout with him, he spends calm gnawing on a bone, holding it with his 2 front paws like a goofball. Or by napping, he doesn't mind not having a whole lot to do, and definitely doesn't mind when fetch is involved. He adores chuck-it balls to the extreme, personally, I think they're his main motivator when we are working with him. Though, he's definitely a food motivated fella, too! Eli does great with other dogs, and every person willing to give him a second to warm up, and the ball, or some treats. Eli knows all of his basics, is crate-trained, and house-broke; making the transition a whole lot easier, he's in a foster home!

We'd like Eli's adopter to have knowledge, and or experience with Shepherds, as he truly has the natural potential to be outstanding.

My adoption fee is only $210! This fee covers all of my vaccines, microchip, nex/heartguard, heartworm test, AND my spay/neuter!

More about this shelter

We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!

Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
