My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oh, hey there, eh? I’m Canada, your friendly neighborhood feline who’s as quiet and peaceful as my namesake. I may not come running to greet you with a ‘meow-ntain’ of enthusiasm, but don’t mistake my wallflower vibes for coldness—I`m as sweet as maple syrup once you get to know me!

I’m the kind of cat who treasures my ‘me-time.’ You know, curling up in a sunny spot by the window, watching the world go by, and pondering life’s big questions, like why humans think laser pointers are so entertaining. That said, if you approach me gently and respectfully, I’ll let you pet me—you’ve just gotta earn your purr-mit.

I might not demand your attention or climb all over your lap, but I’ll quietly share my love in my own special way. Think of me as the perfect cat for someone who appreciates subtle companionship. I’m like the warm hug of a cozy flannel shirt: understated but oh-so-comforting.

If you’re patient and give me the space I need, you’ll discover that I have a heart as big as the Rockies. I don’t need a bustling household or constant attention to be happy—just a safe, loving home where I can feel at ease. Bonus points if you have a quiet corner for me to call my own!

So, if you’re looking for a laid-back, independent cat who will quietly warm your heart without stealing the spotlight, I’m your girl. Let’s make this adoption journey as smooth as a ride on the Trans-Canada Highway. I promise to bring a little slice of serenity to your life, one peaceful purr at a time.

Will you be the one to say ‘oh fur sure’ to me, Canada? Let’s start our great adventure together—no passport required!

More about this shelter

The Animal Defense League was established in 1934 by a group of individuals, “for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to promote kind and humane treatment of animals; and to aid and assist the enforcement of laws enacted for the prevention of animal cruelty.”

In 1961, ADL moved to its present location in the easily accessible northeast part of San Antonio. Its campus encompasses more than 12 acres and includes a two-acre pet park. On the property is an Adoption Center with a small retail store, and a separate 5,000 square-foot Clinic which houses our veterinary hospital that provides onsite spay/neuter surgery, surgery for injured and ill animals, and ongoing medical care for all ADL resident animals.
