Are you a cat whisperer? Sweet Petunia wants to meet you.
This elegant beauty was locked up in a bodega for at least 2 days after the Board of Health shut the bodega down. She was crying and crying hoping someone would save her and let her out. Finally the landlord came to put a "For Rent" sign on the place and set her on the sidewalk with a can of food. Thankfully, I had been trying to figure out how to get her out and I grabbed her. She is so easy to pick up and set on your lap, but it is when you reach to pet her on the ground that she gets upset. She also hates hates hates carriers and I believe she was kept in a small cage and poked at which is why she is having a hard time being pet when you are on the ground with her. Yet she can be picked up and pet. I've been working with her and finding she is really improving. She needs someone to play with her and to allow her a bit of time to overcome her fear of being on the ground and poked at. She really loves to play with the feline flyer and she is growing into a real stunning beauty with incredibly soft soft fur..
The main barrier to her complete turnaround is the fact that I have many kitties. She needs someone to spend time with her who doesn't have other kitties and can play with her and give her more attention than I can. A patient household where she is treated kindly is key. Oddly, I believe she may be more of a lap cat than some of my own kitties since she will stay in my lap longer than my guys. if you like an independent, funny animal with a sassy attitude, my girl Petunia or "Tunia" for short is truly a lovely creature.
I’ve taken in a lot of Bed-Stuy strays, and they develop into sweet and grateful pets. If you can’t adopt Petunia, please consider fostering--I need to make room for the stray standing outside my door right now.
