Boba is a sweet 3 yr old mixed breed that may start out shy and fearful, but with time & trust becomes an energetic goofball! While she may take time to warm up to you and seem mellow to begin with, don't let that fool you. This girl loves to play with balls, toys, and chew any stuffed toy. Her dream would be to play fetch or tug of war endlessly.

She is a medium energy girl, that kennels well during the day, but if allowed to roam wants to play most of the day. We are working on her leash skills, as she is excited about everything that skitters, especially squirrels and cats, but is nonreactive to people and dogs (unless the dog is barking and lunging at her).

Boba would do better in a household without kids, and low traffic, as she is fearful meeting strangers and needs time (and distance) to warm up to new people, especially men. She does great with other dogs, and while she sometimes wants to chase cats, she has spent time in the presence of cats and done fine.

If you give her the time, she will be your loyal companion for life. She loves to follow her foster mom around from room to room, sitting on her when in bed and on the couch, always with her ball or a bone nearby to entertain herself with.

She has lived in both an apartment and a house with a fenced yard, and only barks on the occasion as an alert, but is very responsive to correction and direction.

She is potty trained, with the occasional accident if she gets scared or overly excited.

She will need to meet all members of the family, including any potential dog companions. This sweet goofball is ready to meet you. She is spayed, micro-chipped, and vaccinated. To learn more, email foster@kcpetproject.org.

Thanks so much for considering adoption! At KC Pet Project we have no blanket rules. Our goal is to find the pet that is right for YOUR family. The adoption process takes about an hour and does not require you filling out any paperwork ahead of time – you’ll do that once you’ve met someone and decide it’s a good fit. If you have another dog at home, we would like to have a supervised introduction with your pet(s) and our pet. Details about the introduction process can be found below.

You can view all of our adoptable dogs online at – we update their availability and location in real time. If you see them, they are still available for adoption. When you click on their photo it will show their location. There is no appointment needed to visit our pets.

You can visit any of our three locations seven days a week and find a pet that you’re interested in, or meet someone in foster at a mutually agreed upon location. We will have you fill some things out and then go through an adoption interview with a staff member. If all goes well, we’ll send you home with them that day. They’ll have been spayed/neutered, microchipped, have age appropriate vaccines, have been heartworm tested, and have received intestinal dewormer.

Small dogs, puppies, and specialty breeds go quickly here at KC Pet Project. If your schedule allows, you are encouraged to visit our dogs here at the shelter, as we often times have these dogs but they are on stray hold. If you see a pet you are interested in but they are not currently available, you have the option of putting down an Early Bird hold. The EB hold is $50 and $25 of it is a non-refundable donation to us that gives you first right of adoption if the dog is not reclaimed, and the other $25 is deducted from the dog’s adoption fee.

All of our adopters are expected to have a proper leash and collar for their dogs or a carrier to take home cats, which can be found in the retail section of any of our locations. If you live in Kansas City, MO, you should also expect to purchase a city license tag for $12 – this is something you’ll renew each year upon vaccinating your pet.

If you need to introduce your pet(s) to our pet: We recommend visiting an animal first to make sure that it is a good candidate for your home, and so that you have free hands. If you decide you would like to proceed with a meet and greet, please bring your dog to the location where your adoption candidate lives and staff will assist you. If visiting the main shelter, please do not bring your dog into the kennel area. Instead, have someone you trust hold onto your dog and notify a staff member that you are here for the introduction, or you can leave them in your car if it is weather appropriate. KCPP staff will let your dog and our dog drag a leash and greet each other naturally, without you present so that the introduction can be as objective as possible. Please plan on separating your newly adopted dog from your current dog on your drive home (in a kennel, for example), unless you have assistance.
