Meet Big Mama - a thick chunky girl with lots of love to give! She’s been called a “lovely lady,” “highlight of my dog walks today,” and “absolutely adorable,” by her Volunteer & Staff friends.

She’s leash trained & motivated by food & treats (sure to make future training a positive experience for you both! After a walk by a Volunteer, she laid down in the play yard and graciously accepted belly rubs, affection and lots of pets. She is truly a sweet soul with lots of love to give & hopefully receive by her forever people!

Big Mama is going to do best in a home without other pets. She’d prefer a low traffic home like a house with a yard for easy play time access, or a home that doesn’t require frequent elevator access with other dogs/traffic. She is still learning to socialize with other pups, but with humans - it’s automatic trust, lots of love and a laid back lady! Come in today to meet the next member of your furever fam!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
