My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Iris, the delightful 1-year-old female Coonhound mix who's ready to capture your heart! Originally a stray in Spencer County, Iris is now thriving under the care of Barks and Recreation, where she's been fostered. Iris is a social butterfly who gets along famously with other dogs, making her an ideal companion for playdates and adventures at the dog park. However, she prefers a home without cats, ensuring peace and harmony for all. Her foster says, "She is good with kids, she loves to snuggle my 11 year old, and she's great with all dogs! She walks fantastic on a leash as well. She deserves her very own home!" This charming pup is known for her sweet disposition and her hound bay that will melt your heart. Plus, she's incredibly food motivated, making training sessions both enjoyable and effective. If you're ready to welcome a beautiful and loving companion into your home, consider adopting Iris. She's eagerly awaiting the opportunity to become the light of your life! Apply to adopt Iris at ITvrescue.org.

All of our dogs are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heartworm tested and treated, if necessary.

More about this shelter

It Takes A Village Rescue, Inc. is a non-kill 501(c)(3) rescue dedicated to doing what it takes to find loving homes for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, and to keep these animals safe and free from further suffering. Our mission is "To work as one in helping homeless animals irrespective of breed, location or circumstance." By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, veterinarians and partner rescues or shelters, we are able to rescue countless animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care as we work to find them well-matched forever homes. Although we do not discriminate based on breed, size or color, we have a particular interest in bully breeds, special medical needs, senior dogs, black dogs and other hard-to-place animals.
