My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

These adorable baby boys - Sleepy, Doc, Bashful, Sneezy and Happy - were found abandoned in a box with their mother and brought to us here at Lollypop Farm. They spent some time with a foster mom to get ready for adoption, and now they're looking to go home.

These sweeties are very shy, which is quite understandable given their start in life. But if you're an experienced rat owner or just have a lot of patience, your reward will be that over-the-moon feeling that comes when a shy pet realizes you really are their new best friend. Insider tip: They looove blueberries, so offering a plump blueberry is a great way to temp them out to say hi and get them to associate you with Very Good Things.

Rats are very loving. They form strong bonds with each other and with their people. Once your rats get to know you, they'll run to greet you at the front of the cage and ask for snuggle time. They're excellent communicators, with plenty of cute sounds and expressions to tell you what they're thinking.

They're also extremely smart. They're curious about everything and very playful. You can have lots of fun teaching them to do tricks for treats. They're also very clean and will not only groom themselves and each other, they might even groom you. That's when you know you're really part of the mischief, as a group of rats is called.

Because these boys are very bonded to each other, they need to go home with at least one of their brothers, so whether you adopt two or three - or all five! - we'll offer you a multi-pet discount to make it easy for you to expand your family.

Have we sold you on meeting the boys and our other adoptable rats? Why not come on out to the shelter to see if love is waiting to squeak its way into your heart?

More about this shelter

Mission:
Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, works together with our community better the lives of animals through justice, prevention, and life-saving care.

Vision: A just and compassionate world for all animals.

Lollypop Farm is not your typical animal welfare organization. We don’t classify ourselves as merely a shelter, simply taking in and rehoming pets. Rather, we are your partner. We’ll work with you to build a just and compassionate world for all animals–to save animals from abuse and suffering, to find a resource to keep your pet, to guide you in adopting a new pet, to make the tough decision to say goodbye to your family friend or to share information on how to help animals in your daily life.
