Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Timothy is a 5-year-old, 37lb terrier mix who's a bit like Shrek... like an onion... with lots of layers. As he begins to relax in his foster home and to know that he is safe, his foster mom is seeing more and more of Timothy's layers and depth.
He came to her very wary and suspicious, but soon it became clear that he desperately wanted to trust her and trust that he was safe. As he continues to decompress, his foster mom continues to see more sides to him. Lately she describes him as bursting with energy and curiosity! He even surprised her one day by running circles around the house and even getting another of her dogs to join in the fun.
Timothy tends to be nervous around new people at first, but he warms up with time, treats and patience. Once comfortable with you, he loves to receive your pets and affection.
Timothy is great on a leash and well-behaved in relaxed public settings, though so far he doesn't enjoy lots of chaos and he is not the type to want to say hi to every dog and human while out and about. He'd rather observe and stay close to His Person. He needs His Person to advocate for him and educate people on how to let him approach them, and how not to put pressure on him to interact, which makes him uncomfortable.
Timothy has done well with respectful kids in his neighborhood that are as young as age 6. He has done well with dogs of all sizes when introduced properly. He has a good amount of prey drive as is typical with his breed, so if a cat were to run, he would likely want to give chase, but if a cat stands its ground, they would likely quickly learn to ignore each other or even be friends.
Timothy is looking for a family that can help him continue to learn and grow. He needs someone who is willing to give him time to decompress. He also needs boundaries and clear rules/expectations. Please let us know if you are interested in learning more about this sweet, handsome dog!

Applications are accepted online at https://lastchanceatlife.org/adoptable-pets/dog-adoption-application/
2.
Home Check
We will schedule a home visit. Home visits are virtual and last about 30 minutes.
3.
Approve Application
Once each step is complete you will be approved as an LCAL adopter and we can schedule a meet and greet with the dog.
Additional adoption info
The first step in the adoption process is an application. We also ask for a letter of recommendation from a current or past veterinarian you have used for any other animals you have or have had in the past. This letter is basically the doctor recommending you to adopt based on your history of taking good medical care of your animals.
If you rent, we ask for proof that you are allowed to have a dog in your home. That's it paperwork-wise. Then we can work to find the dog that is the perfect fit for your family. If you do not have a vet that you have used in the recent past, no problem! We will schedule a home visit.
The adoption fee is a donation of your choice with a minimum of $250.
Your pet has been spayed/neutered and will come with a full medical history as best as we can give. When the dogs come to us they see a vet right away for an intake exam so we know as much as possible regarding their current health. They are given vaccines and we take blood, fecal, and urine to send to the lab to look for any other health issues that we can treat.

More about this rescue
Last Chance at Life is an all-breed rescue and adoption organization. We have a special fondness for Boxers, birds, and ANY pet in need of medical care. We take in animals from all over San Diego County. Our rescues come to us from local shelters and humane societies, owners who can no longer properly care for them, and through other rescue groups. Most often these animals are facing euthanasia because of medical or behavioral needs. Because of this, we are truly their “Last Chance at Life.”
Some of our pets are in foster homes, and others are cared for at our Adoption Center in Oceanside, CA.
All of our pets receive the very best in medical care from the doctors and staff at Mission Animal and Bird Hospital. The entire team is very committed to offering care to our pets in need and no short cuts are ever taken because these are rescue pets. Visit Mission Animal and Bird Hospital.
